Some lowlife did a bin run Tuesday night and took out our letterbox. We were going to get a new one anyway but thats not the point.
Little do they know that we have surveillance cameras and it was all caught on the DVR....the police have a copy of the footage now and are chasing it up.
Watching the footage it was a pretty good shot too, but I would have rathered it was not our letterbox they hit....
show us the footage or it didnt happen![]()
I don't think I can as it's part of an on going investigation.
well can you draw it on paint, i think that would make it funny, for even you!
What's the legalities of having cameras set up filming a public area (read: a street or footpath)? Do you have to have it sign posted or anything? I've been wondering for a while cos I wouldn't mind having a setup myself.
pretty sure video footage isnt submissable in court. too easy to fake. im pretty sure the cops will use it if no one kicks up a fuss. but if i got caught doing something naughty on camera, i can refuse to have that footage presented to a court.
who was that model-chick that got caught on film a few years ago snorting K? kate moss? anyway, video footage wasnt submissable.
blah
Perfectly legal as it is filming from private property. And anything that happens on public property is exactly that, public. No signs necessary either.
I don't care whether it is admissible or not, the fact is they were caught on camera and if the cops identify them from the footage,, they will get a visit and if nothing else comes of it, at least they no they were spotted and might deter them from doing it again.
I think having CCTV on your own property for security reasons is generally ok provided it doesn't intrude on neighbours' privacy, but this could vary from state to state.
As long as it doesn't look directly into a neighbors property without their permission you are ok. If the police know you are covering a public area and something happens they may request the footage.
The validity of it comes down to compression and watermarking etc to prove it hasn't been tampered with. Most home systems won't qualify nit are ok for proving a point. Commercial grade systems (you will pay mega dollars) are qualified by federal agencies for various forms of protection.
Put the footage up! i wanna see the hit on the mailbox!
Friggin' desperados - who the hell steals a letter box?
just google it, they probably filmed it themselves and already put it up on youtube.
Funny if they get done for neg driving for it.
I always thought people drive along the road with a passenger in the rear kicking the bins? The youth of today, I thought, would be towing bins with people riding on them, you know, due to Jackass and whatnot lol. Sucks about the mailbox, though![]()

the bin was on the towball of the car and they were flying up and down the streets for awhile. City Council said that one street in particular was targetted and approx 5 people lost their bins because of it.
Footage has been given to the cops and they are dealing with it.
Absolutely camera footage is allowed in court, they have very sophisticated machinery nowadays that can tell if footage has been tampered with, and if you're on my property.....sorry our property doing something you shouldn't be doing, then if the law won't get you, i bloody well will..sorry we....simple really.
I....correction, we work hard for what we have and there is no way i am.... sorry again....we are going to let anyone take that away.
Yes i did it too when i was younger, put the bin on the back of the towball of the VC Brocky and drove as fast as we could to see how long the bin would stay on the back of the car......only we didn't do it in neighbourhoods, we did it on long straight stretches of road where there was nothing but bush and trees lol......i would never in a million years think to take or damage anyone elses property when i can get out there and work for it myself. It cost me approx $125 to replace that letterbox......that wanker should have paid for it, not me when i didn't do anything wrong.

I doubt it'd be a problem as it'd be helping the police catch assholes in the act.
Plus there is a website where you can submit your own camera and let them know what it films, so they know if there is a problem in the area, there is more chance of catching them on video.
By the sounds of this website, they prefer you to have camera......it helps me sleep at nights knowing everything is being recorded and is there if we ever need it.

yeah and even if they cant use the footage in court, you will still be able to watch it and keep an eye out for them and deal with them personally, i.e a quiet word with them ; )
