As some of you would be aware, some Commodores come with a deadlock feature. I know my VZ has it, and my missus' parents' VT has it, so I'm assuming all models from VT onwards must have it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, the deadlock is enabled by pushing the lock button on your key twice. This means that the doors cannot be opened or unlocked from the inside.
I made it a habit to always deadlock my car when leaving it somewhere, and today it paid off.
Left my car at the station as I usually do, and headed off to uni. Upon returning, I found the quarter-glass on the rear passenger door smashed in.
After a quick look around, I saw that no other cars had yet been damaged, and nothing was in or around the car that could have been used to smash it. Anyway, got in, went to the police station, came home, made necessary phone calls, cleaned it up and patched the window etc.
I get a call a few hours later from my mum, saying that my sister's car which had been parked a few cars down from me had also been broken into, however the intruder actually got into the car and went through her stuff. Apparently he also got into 2 other cars at the station.
Her rear quarter-glass was broken in the exact same way that mine was, so the intruder reached in, unlocked the door from the inside, and gained access.
The only reason nothing was taken from my car was because of the deadlock; He may have broken the window, and he would have reached in to try to unlock the door, but because it was deadlocked it was impossible to actually unlock the door, thus he couldn't gain access.
So the moral of the story is: Taking the extra half-second to deadlock your car could be the difference between a simple broken window, or a broken window and theft.
Need a part number? PM me.
Luke.
Sucks about what happened but I completely agree.
I ALWAYS deadlock. Takes an extra .5 seconds and can be the difference between returning to find your car and belongings still there or not.
you can also dead lock any commodore by turning the key the other way in the lock on the outside one
I always deadlock mine, dunno why you wouldnt to be honest..
Can you deadlock VL's? I know these are the number 1 car to steal, and as of yet I haven't shaved my locks/got central locking, so I have to rely on my trusty steering wheel lock to stop people driving it away, but is there any way for me to stop people actually opening my locks from the inside or is the car just too ill-equipped?

its a good feature, for any VR owners out there the vr has it but its different though becuase of the single lock/ unlock button. the key is inserted and turned left untill the key is horizontal. make sure when u unlock it again you turn the key back vertical and then take the key out and press the unlock button or you will set your alarm off.
ye the dead lock feature has been in commodores for a long time, my vn calais had it but had to turn the key to engage
"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
Oh wow i didnt know this, once i do the intial lock and u hear it click, as a habbit i always press the lock again once or twice to make sure its locked lol and it doesnt make any noises just the indicators flash, so have i been deadlocking it all this time? its for my 2008 ve ssv ute btw
No the VL does not, they were in VN on and if yours does not work the barrels clapped/seized for that rotation (will still lock normal)
besides if it was in the VL even the deadlock would be defeated by the mighty paddle pop stick.
in the VT-VZ when you press it twice the indicators stay on (freeze on) for 2/2.5 seconds, noticeable difference from the quick 1 sec flash for pressing it once.
Series 1 vt you need to turn the key anticlockwise
not sure its on the VE, as you said my mums old VX and dads VZ both have it where the indicators come on and freeze on for a few seconds, however both mine and mums VE's dont do this. Does it still do it or na?
Yo.
My VY beeps everytime I lock and unlock it. At first it annoyed me, my last VY didnt do it. I was going to see if it could be taken off but the noise reminds me to lock it properly... so Im considering leaving it on![]()
Not sure about the VE either, it got rolling locks but dunno about deadlocks. just lock the car with the window down and try to unlock / open the doors from the inside and see what happens
You can also do it on cars other than Commodores too - my Astra H can do it, I've gotten myself into the habit of always deadlocking, lets face it its not as if it really takes any longer than locking it normally, not to mention that it might save my belongings if someone does try and break in one day.

I always deadlock my vy. Because you had to do it manually on my vs I only did it when I was leaving the car for a long period of time.
Nice on the vy that you can turn off 2 stage unlock so now I'm in the habit of locking it twice instead of unlocking it twice.
Heaps of cars have this feature, found out by mistake bmws have it too. But you have to use the key in the lock
Cheers Mohi... didnt know that so will keep that in mind![]()
