Car impounding and resulting courtcase

Was after some advice on dealing with an up coming court case resulting from my pure stupidity
dropped the clutch from 6000rpm and spun the wheels up the road, little did you know there was an unmarked police car behind me.
car has been impounded for 30 days.. which is rather annoying to say the least.

the police officer informed me that i will have to attend court and suggested i get some sort of legal advice.
i was wondering how others have dealt with this situation in the past, if they seeked legal advice and if so what did they get/who did they use.
the charge is "improper use of a motor vechical" and i have not been charged with this before or lost my license before.

understand what i did was stupid and im taking it on the chin, but what done is done, how ever i still want to be able to deal with this in the best way possible from here on in.
wondering what other people have got from going to court? road safety courses? more fines? im not really sure what too expect.
any help would be great as the more information i get the better off ill be.
