so heres the story, i seen a car for sale on the internet and it was advertised at a dealership in sydney, anyway i called them up and they said the car was in immaculant condition, drives great, good gear box ect, and in one of the photos it looked like some off the paint was abit dodgey, so anyway i said to the guy listen mate im coming from a long way away to come check this car out, so just tell me straight up if theres anything wrong with it "nah mate its a beutiful car, paints great and runs great" so anyways i get my money together and me and a mate made the 3 hour journey up to this dealership, only to find out that the cars a piece of crap, the paint around the boot area's peeling, the front looks like its been resprayed from an accident or something, plus small dints ect all over it, i was annoyed but didnt let on and the lad insisted i take it for a test drive, so i did, and things just got worse, it idled rough, i reveresed it and when i put it in drive and accelerated the car just rolled back and struggled to even go foward, i put my foot down a little and the car got to 60, and that was it, i couldnt get it over 60 because the gearbox was slipping so bad and was struggleing too much, so i took it back and didnt wanna make a big song and dance about it so i just said nah im not interested and bailed, anyways when the photos were on the net the other day they were clearly taken in the rain and the car was a little dirty but the paint looked good in most spots exept one patch near the boot, so anyways when i went there the lad told me it had just been detailed, and what annoyed me the most is when i got home i looked at the add online again to compair what the photos looked like compaired to real life, but they had deleted the old photos and put new ones up of the car after it was detailed and the car looks like a million bucks, which annoyed me for 2 reasons, 1 it doesnt look that good and i suspect the've mabey photoshopped it, because theres one photo were in real life the paints stuffed, but in the photo you cant even see it at all it looks fine, and 2 because now some other suckers going to think "wow what a bargain for a car that looks so nice" and will go out of there way to head up there for nothing, anyways i just wanted to have a little rant about it, feel free to share you storys ect

oh well you dont have to read it
i used to work for an ex used car salesman. he said one trick they used to do was advertise a car that wasn't even on the lot at a great price. just to entice people to the car yard. then when people showed up to look at it they would say "sorry it just got sold, but check out the other beauties on the lot while you're here"
my old fella used to have a car yard, dont remember them throwing any of these seedy tricks about though...
but most of those fyans st car yard blokes are bastards!
EDIT: also when i walked into them (looking for a car for my mum) they assumed i was looking for a car and started throwing me at every bloody commodore there was hahaha
never buy from a car yard... anytime someone is trying to make money corners are going to be cut, so much so that square's turn to circles... private sale is the way to go...
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
Mate that sucks. I reckon you can get some much better deals on some really immaculate cars through private sale if you search hard enough and long enough. But I'd look at reputable dealerships too, as in Holden etc, but avoiding dodgy car yards.
I read all your first post, but yeah paragraphs would have been nice lol.
Best of luck finding something better.
Wasn't at why walk used cars was it?

ive done paint work for some car yards, didnt last long as it made me sick to my stomach to watch what really goes on. hence why id never buy from a car yard. if you can get a warranty on one go for it. dealerships that sell new cars and take decent trades arnt what im talking about. talking those grubby joints with a mixed lots and the dude in the office is unshaven and has stains on his shirt...

Big problem, went all the way down to look at a VT I saw online, got told it was in great condition, drove the 2 hours down there. Hole front quarter was smashed in, interior was pulled to bits and the RHR window was down and no doubt wasn't going back up. Had a look at a few others and there was not 1 road worthy car there.

I bought my last car through private sale...had an idea what I wanted. Really liked the Barbados Blue like my old VY, but ended up with one called Redhot colour. Im not a huge fan of red...but this one was in better nic with lower klms. As I was recovering from an accident had to rely on someone else going over car for me. My brother has bought and sold a few cars in his time. It wasnt until a couple of weeks after I got it that had trouble with side plastic trim on drivers seat. Common problem with VY...but the last owner had wired the seat, so it wasnt noticeable. I booked it into Holden and it was in there 15 minutes when they came out and told me Id need a whole new seat and that the trim they were going to replace it with wasnt going to match and it was going to cost $346. I was quite annoyed, but thought it has to be done. Although on the way home I thought it might be worth me checking the Commodore shop at Cardiff and getting their advice. They put me onto an upholsterer who came out and said yep..I can fix that. So I went and got the part from Holden and he came to my house, pulled the seat out and repaired it. Cost $ 140 total. So with a second opinion I saved over $200 which I plan to use towards the cost of tinting. I was a happy girl
When it comes to cars...I think a lot will lie because they can get away with it...you learn as go when it comes to things like this unfortunately.
* Just as a note to what I said, I dont believe the Holden dealer was trying to rip me off necessarily...I realise the cost of labour is in there etc. I just think it pays to get another opinion![]()
Yeah you need to watch car yards for sure. In Saying that, I Bought a VX back in 08 from a car yard, best car ever, has not missed a single beat. I replaced the water pump for just piece of mind cause i know they are a real issue. But when looking to replace the Mrs VR, OMG i have never seen such shit in my life. Wanting 8-9k for a beaten up old VT. I Found a VT for 5k but had like 600k on the clock and everything was ####ed.
But i found a VY Wagon for 7k private sale. But since i have had to do - PS Pump, Radiator, Water Pump & a windscreen reseal. Not really major things but you just never know what your going to get from a used car. Scored really well with the VX.
sounds like my day in a nutshell mate, the only other car that was there that half caught my attention had rust all around the tail lights ect, you would think if they want to run a legit buisness that there cars should be up to some standard
yeah shedvl new genuine holden parts can be expensive plus labour aswell, but good for you shopping around and getting a better deal
and yeah edels thats like i seen a vy with low km's for sale for 4500 around my area in private sales, where as most vt's that are older with more km's in dealerships are around that mark, so it defiantly pays to shop around, and i understand you never know what your going to get from a used car, but this thing was the worst thing ever and when i hear people say "holdens are crap" i can only assume its because the holdens they have driven are like the one i drove today
