Few days ago in the local paper, it was reported that a chinese national was sent to 2 months jail for her crime in stealing from a russian tourist. Both these women were waiting for their separate flights in the departure hall when the russian went up to go to the washroom and absent mindedly left her handbag behind. the chinese national took the opportunity to take her handbag and make off with some personal effects. When the russian returned she noticed that her things were missing, until a Fiji national who saw the whole incident, pointed out the thief to the russian.
Long story short, the opportunistic thief was apprehended...and missed her flight...
Incidents like this make me believe that there are still decent, hardworking people out there. Brings to memory that one time when i picked up a satchel (man purse) from the KLIA airport and handed it over to the owner, who didnt realize it had fallen.
What would the people in the JC universe do in a similar situation? would you give back something that had fallen off? point out a thief?
Without hesitation.
I have, on a few occasions given something back to someone who has lost it. I was walking along once when a lady dropped about $150, it was a while ago so I don't remember the exact amount but I picked it up and gave it to her. Not one word of thanks though, which pissed me off.
I even give back money when people give me too much change.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Of course I'd give the bag back. Whilst not at an airport I have seen many similar situations and let people know they have forgotten something or chased after them to make sure they got it.
Reaper
id always give it back. im that kinda person. i know its a different situation but myself n my work mate stopped to help two young blokes such as ourselves who had gotten themselves bogged in some mud yesterday. we coulda just laughed n drove past but we decided to help![]()
VZ SV6 now, Jelly?
Yeah I do when I can, or else I end up with the guilty feeling in my gut. But the amount of times no recognition was given is ridiculous. But I must say the 1/20 times that thanks is giving does make you feel real good![]()
Yeah I would help if I could.. Most people think Im creepy so they wont ask for my help..
Yep would definately do the right thing in that situation. I remember one time I was in a layby line at Target and the person who was being served in front of me had left a small bag on the little shelf where they where being served. It was a bag from a well known jeweller. I didnt hesitate and ran after them, When I tell people that story, Ive had a few say why didnt you keep it ?? Simple answer is that it wasnt mine & its the right thing to do. I also did it recently when I found an Iphone on the counter at the bank. Id want someone to do that for me
On a similar subject...sorry dont mean to get off topic...but has anyone jumped in to stop a fight. Ive done it twice, but it was because the person on the ground was being kicked. Sorry its a bit of a gutless act. One of the times I did it, it was a drunk guy kicking a woman. It wasnt at a pub or club, just happened when I was about 17 and I wasnt living in a nice area at the time. I didnt think and just shoved him flying. You only think later what harm can come to yourself. At night if I saw someone in trouble...say by side of the road, Id call police for them. Im not getting out of the car. Could be a set up.

Depends on the situation.
Helping someone in a non-confrontational situation I would no worries. Helping old ladies cross the road, catching a hot bird who trips in her heels, helping pick up spilt coins, etc, I do as required.
If it's a confrontational situation, 50/50. If some guy is harassing a woman then I would be more likely to interven be less so if it's blokes vs blokes.
These days I try look at a situation like that and think what would my fiancee prefer, a dead hero or a live but ignornant partner. She's already outlined to be which she prefers.
Before I was engaged, I had a tendacy to hint as much trouble as possible so I would step into bad situations 100% of the time.
if i dropped a wad a cash id want someone to give it back to me.. thats why id give it back too. but im a firm believer in karma so if i did drop the the cash and didnt get it back its cause i screwed someone else on a previous occasion... on the other thing of hero samaritan, these days im not sticking my nose into any in progress assaults, robberies, arguments, or anything like that cause you never know if that person is going to pull a weapon or 10 more of his mates are going to pop out of nowhere. the only time ill #### with a situation like that is if ive got a concealed carry permit coupled with a 40 cal smith and wesson or a 1911.... better off calling the police, they signed up for it...

I believe in karma too. I'm building up the bank at the moment, because I'm likely to need the karma points later on :-)
I stop to help people on the side of the road with breakdowns. Christmas eve last year on the M5 I stopped to help an older couple (in their 60s) with a flat tyre. They could not believe that I stopped to help when 1000s of cars drove past. Turns out he owned a very nice restaurant at The Rocks and made me give him my phone number and called me a few times until I booked dinner at his place for my girl and I. One of the best meals ever.
I've stopped even more often since then but no more dinners ... yet

YES! Karma is a b!tch , it makes me do the right thing all the time, most recently I was eating at hungry jacks with a couple of work mates in the car, we saw an old block in a vectra try to park next to a magna and hit the bumper and headlights,
I thought he was going to do the right thing because he continued into the parking space got out of the the car and to my amazement, he just walked away, I said I will leave a note, and my mates said F### 'EM, i said no way what if it was your car? they didn't care.
so I wrote all the details down with my name and number, next day the owner rang me to get more details.
it's been about 6 weeks now and 2 days ago I was having a beer after work with one of the guys there that day, my phone rang and it was the owner of the car and he was wrapped and couldn't thank me enough, because of my note the cops were able to track the old bloke and he admitted it, so the owner saved $300 on his excess and wanted to send me a gift voucher, I said no way, your thanks is enough and I hope somebody would do the same for me if it happens, he said he couldn't belive it because he was certain that people do not do what I did anymore, and I know this because my missus VS has been hit 3 times whilst parked and nobody did a thing.
Nobody wants to play with me
i help when i can, saw an old bloke trying to get an air compressor out of his car, he was struggling so i offered a hand. took a minute out of my day, dont know whats wrong with helping.
once my mate said about some bogan belting his misses at werribee station, him and hes brother jumped the tracks and pulled this bloke off. what happened to him after, well thats of no concern. haha
at BDO last year this random chick scattered off her head just sat down with us for a while to chat, when she got up and left, we noticed her car keys on the grass. Somehow recognised her about an hour later and gave her back her keys. She had no idea who I was or how I got her keys haha.
This house is a f*cking prison! On Planet Bullsh*t! In the galaxy of This Sucks Camel D*cks!
I normally stop to help people that have broken down, but wouldnt do much if there where people argueing, like people have said, to many fkwits carry knives and things these days
I have helped out a few people who have dropped money or bags without knowing and they rarely say thank you, but that doesn't mean I would stop, to do otherwise would be stealing
same same... it comes back in return one way or another..
i helped a granny change a flat one day and she was stoked she gave me a scratchie she just brought...
won $10 Bucks.. i thought it was very nice. Various ppl leaving things behind, wallets, Phones, Sunnies etc...
had another fella at the pub pull some cash out an atm...
this particular atm only has cassettes of $20 notes. so it counts out half of what he asked for and stopped. he grabbed it and walked off not knowing the atm was changing cassettes and it pumped out the rest about 10 seconds after.. so i called him back. He was very happy. i could have had a free night of beers and the TAB.
I've had many a times when i've left my wallet on the train when getting off on my way to work.. had plenty of people tap me on the shoulder on the platform going "hey, this is yours, you left it" and then jump back on the train, really nice of them.
I always try to do the right thing, pick up things people have dropped or left behind and return it to them. But like other JC members who have posted, I am surprised by the number of people who don't even bother to say thanks, they just take the item and just say something off hand like "oh yeah, that is mine." It is actually quite rare for someone to say thank you, I think everyone is very suspicious these days.
One example that springs to mind was when I was at the petrol station filling up my car and I noticed the old lady filling up her car next to me had a flat tyre (she had gone to pay for her petrol when I noticed it). When she was walking back to her car I said, "Excuse me mam, but you have a flat tyre, do you need help in pumping it back up?" She then asked me how did I know it was flat? Why was it flat? Was the car safe to drive? How long had it been flat for? etc etc etc. I said, sorry mam, just letting you know it's flat, I don't know why it is, it just is. Then she asked me to drive her around all afternoon as she had errands to run and she didn't think her car was safe. I told her that I was willing to pump up her tyre for her and the car would be OK after that or she could drive it to a tyre store and have it checked. She just glared at me and said "I think you have already done enough thank you!" accusing me of letting her tyre down. Then I remembered the old old saying "No good deed ever goes unpunished".
I still help people out, but I don't expect any thanks for it.
i was leaning on a company car having a smoke in a supermarket carpark, about to get in and drive off (cant smoke in company cars) and watched a guy bash into another parked car. to my horror, same thing, he just reverses back and goes to drive off. i stepped in front of his car, he stops i say "mate, you did a whack of damage to that car, best leave your details" he replies something along the lines of "*** ***** **************" and boots it out of the carpark.
since i had nothing better to do, i sat and had a few more smokes till the owner of the damaged car came back. i was able to give him a thorough description of the driver, the car, the rego plates etc. etc.
nothing pisses me off more than scum who dont take responsibility for their actions
that is gold! not that you should have been working or anything. LMFAO!
I also stopped 1 night when I heard a flat tyre go past, so I went up to these 5 asian chicks to see if I could help them out and they were wrapped, 'cos they were waiting for a friend that was 1hr away, so I quickly changed their tyre and they were on their way in 15mins. pity they were all in their 50's and 60's though.
Nobody wants to play with me
so far off the top of my head,
:ive found 3 wallets on the side of the road, returned them all to the owners. 1 had money, business credit cards etc in it,probably could have had some fun with it,turned out the bloke drove a home ice cream truck and insisted i take of free ice cream but i refused.
:gave a bloke a lift home one night when his gearbox went in his old wb ute
: stopped at the shops the other day,let a bloke know his ve had a rear flat tyre,he didnt give a ####,told me he was going to head up soon to the servo and pump it up, gave it a bit taking off, tyre and rim were would have been stuffed.
:another time parked next to a falcon ute at the shops, looked down and he had 5 spoke rims on it. his rear rim was cracked through 2 spokes, wrote him a note to let him know incase.
strong believer in karma here...
i always return wallets/money/phones or whatever i find.
i remember one night i went out for dinner with my parents and dropped my wallet as i got out of the car, it was dark and i didnt notice, my parents paid for dinner so i didnt even think to check if i had it, three days later i got a phone call from a delivery driver who'd found it in the gutter, nothing missing from it or anything i was amazed i bought that guy a 6 pack for his troubles
