Its hard to believe that soon it will be the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
I remember that day clearly. My husband had the tv on while he was getting ready for work and he came in and woke me up and said you have to see this.
I was horrified. Its the only time Ive ever sat all day looking at the television. Given the huge coverage it received over the next few days I had to change the channel for my own sanity. The level of grief that those people faced was unimaginable. I think because it was such a huge number of deaths in an instant and it was premeditated.
It changed our world. It was one of those "Where were you when you heard" moments.
I was just wondering what people remember about that day..where they were, what they thought etc?
and for those members here that are a bit younger...do you remember it at all ?

Oh I was pissed...... Woke up in the morning and cheese tv wasn't on......
Haha oh god, I thought the same thing lol. That and aerobics OZ style. LolOh I was pissed...... Woke up in the morning and cheese tv wasn't on......
But yeah, in all seriousness it was horrible and I don't think we'll forget it in our lifetimes.
I had a very late night up with a sick 2yr old, was bludging on the internet and had tv on in the background. Glanced over, saw a plane flying into a building and thought wtf!!! Watched a bit more in disbelief, went to bed eventually and woke up later wondering if it was a dream.
i slept through it, woke up at nearly 12 in the afternoon (lived in maine at the time). then got straight on the phone to my people in NY all the lines were flooded took ages to connect, had to keep dialing... it was ####in chaos.... went to my brothers house, he was cleaning and loading weapons. he thought the end was coming...
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
I had the radio as my alarm, I heard the tone in the voices of the guys on the radio and went down to the tv worried. My flatmate was watching the news and promptly said the world was screwed. I must say he was pretty much spot on. near work they put up flags for every person killed, kinda makes that morning come back to me every time I walk past it.

I was at boarding school in Grade 11. I woke up and my roommate was saying something about bombs and terrorists and planes. Wasn't fully awake at that stage so I thought he was talking about a computer game. Fired up the computer and saw a photo of one of the towers on fire and went, "WTF!?!?!?" and then realised exactly what had happened.
I don't think its something that we will ever forget...in the few minutes that it happened, the world changed forever.

I heard it in the morning on the radio. Thought it was a sick April Fools Joke and went to work. Entered the facility I was working in at the time and no-one mentioned anything. Dawned on me about an hour later that it was too quiet. Went to an area where the staff were all gathered around a 34cm tv trying to watch what was going on.
It had no effect on me at the time, the constant replays were not an issue - I was oblivious to the impact. If I watch it now, there are considerable emotions that are dredged up.
Different concept but similar issues this year with the floods and cyclones in QLD. We had a fair bit of disruption with work places along the coast from Brisbane to Cairns, evacuated staff members and families as well as trying to get others (who weren't immediately impacted) into the areas to assist customers with recovery from the devastation.
The initial event is not the thing that has the most impact for those involved, it is the cleanup and the recovery - these things impact us all in various forms. I appreciate that the thought of the thread is good, but if people fund it a bit close to home please seek assistance from a professional counsellor.

I remember being late for work that morning because i was watching the telly, pretty sure it was top cat or something.
and it still isnt on.... (i was wondering where my cartoons went that day)
10 years has been a long time. (makes me feel old)
didnt really understand why every channel had to have it on and repeatedly show the same footage 100 times over.
lets hope another thing like it doesnt happen again.
I went to bed early that night because I had a mining economics exam the next day at uni.
I woke up some time that night and the tv was blaring. I walk out and I'm like 'wtf is going on, turn that bloody thing down'.
'Check this out, plane just went into the World Trade Centre in yank land'.
I'm looking at it, convinced it was a movie or something for the first 5 minutes.
Anyway, went to uni the next day and everyone had bags under their eyes and someone asked the lecturer if they could postpone the exam because of 9/11, and he retorted 'fark the yanks and their foreign policy, they had it coming, exam on today'
I was nearly finished the first year of my apprenticeship then, was at work already and a couple of the guys had the tv switched on in the conference room, around 6:50am.
Pretty unbelieveable at the time.
Didn't take long for the joke texts and emails to get around

Interesting read..
first thoughts were: "sweet, thats gonna make my flights to england cheaper"
second thoughts were: "gee, that building came down awefully fast"
third thoughts were: "that building came down way too fast"
thoughts from then on were of sadam hussein and france/germany talking about trading barrels of oil in euro's instead of US dollars, free-fall times of demolished buildings, the low temperature burn rate of kerosene (jet fuel) and how much money they made back on insurance.
once again, some high up people doing really inhamane things for a profit.
