Hey fellas,
Im buying an unregistered bike in a few days and im wondering what i need to get it re reg'd
Its been out of reg for over a year. Do i need the last rego paper? Hes not sure if he has one as its been so long out of rego. I know i need a receipt of sale along with the blue slip and insurance. Does the RTA instantly give me a numberplate and registration?
I re-registered a car which I had restored over a period of four years from a bare shell some years ago. I didn't have any rego papers because it had been off the road for many years and didn't need them because the blue slip required the engine and chassis numbers to be obtained by the examiner and endorsed on the blue slip. I had a bill of sale from the previous owner and he/she was the last registered owner, which satisfied the RTA. The details on the blue slip were checked by the RTA examiner to make sure they matched and after all the crap was over and done with, I left the registry with plates and a year's rego.
That was in NSW but the processes might be a bit different today. Good luck.
All you will need is a bluey, receipt, third party then go to the rta where they will give you a plate etc. no need to find the old papers.
Cheers Shane

Easy Mate. go to a insurance company, Give them a Vin Number, they will give you insurance papers, Mention that your taking it for a blue slip. Get a blue slip, then go to the RTA with a Receipt for proof of ownership and blue slip. Pay for rego etc, they will give you plates after you give them lots of $ ring insurance company and give the Rego plate number
