Default Australian Women Will Soon be Allowed Frontline Combat

'The federal cabinet approved on Monday frontline combat duty for Australian women. Defence Minister Stephen Smith said the change had strong support from the chief of the Defence Force'

Australian Women Will Soon be Allowed Frontline Combat - International Business Times

Personally I think this is great that women can now serve on the frontline. If they meet the required specifications to get into their chosen field, I don't see any problem with them doing what a male can do.

    Your thoughts?
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

If they pass the exact same testing to be in the same position as the males I am all for it.

Hate to be around during "that time of month" though, this time they got guns!!

I say good luck to them. If they pass all the requirements, the same that the men pass not some watered down girly requirements I think good for them. You can't go putting possible relationships into the equation, they would have to ban homosexuals too then.

Israel did this exact same thing and reversed it due to the significant increase of casualties that it caused

This is a touchy subject for alot of people

But in my opinion it's not going to work.

I'm in the RAAF and have seen and been in what goes on and the pressure you get put under, there is a whole bunch of shit to consider, being out in a field enviroment its heaps different for a female than it is for a male, females have to have showers every 3 days and have a whole bunch of hygene stuff (for obvious reasons) they have to meet.
Males just go without and do everything as per the norm. Sure there are females out there that can meet the physical standards which is cool and i respect that but mentally, the females that ive been out field and on deployments with, i really wouldn't want to be in a gun pit with them. Mental stress is just too great for most of them.

Plus i don't know if any of you have seen or heard what goes on in SAS/Commando/ADG training but to put its simple its absolutley ####ed.

So thats my two cents but each to their own, i'm all for letting them have a go.

People joke about it, but its one of the main reasons why it hasnt happened yet. Ive got 2 friends over in Iraq at the moment, they did training up in Townsville and women were given lifts back to the town every 3 days to shower because of the smell.

That aside... I rekon as soon as the first woman dies in action, there is going to be the biggest hissy fit (20 bucks says its the femnazi's who wanted this change who bitch.)

I have a friend who is a ADG. Lets see how the women like having men having to check there arses for parasites, or how they go with 'punch-up friday'?

I don't have an issue with it. I'm all for equal rights which to me means if a person can meet the physical, mental and professional requirements for any job, they should be considered regardless of Gender. I'd imagine the chicks applying for these frontline positions would be pretty tough, hardcore units and wouldn't exactly be hiking through Afghanistan in high heels getting all hormonal....I say of they can handle the heat, send them into the kitchen

Yep, thats the biggy. All the talk about being physically or mentally strong enough is not really the issue. I have no doubt women can train to be as capable and strong and resilient in a physical and mental sense. But the impact on fellow male soldiers of seeing one captured and making the decision to risk their lives or maybe compromise their fellow soldiers safety is the issue. I remember the crappy film GI Jane had that as the message in the end. It wasn’t about how whether she could do the same job. It was how males dealt with the loss or capture. And what consequence that may have on the bigger picture.
The other issue is the nature of conflict we are currently involved in. To a large extent not our fight. If we were defending our country on our soil I rekon the argument is moot. We would be fighting for our existence so why not have women in volved. But going to other countries to fight for foreigners lives is different. I think..

Im all for women having a shot at it ( pardon the pun )... butlets remember both males and females can be raped. One thing that would bother me is with women serving in countries where females are already considered lower in status than men. This would definately make them a target.

I guess on the bright side of this downgrading of the ADF all the men will have someone to make them sammiches and wash their clothes on the front line.

Seriously, utter joke. It is bad enough they have already dropped BFA's to such a dismal sub-standard, but to now do this....heh, I await with glee to hear how the new BFA's have changed yet again. I await with more glee to see how women go on the cadre...oh how I would love to watch that.
