Hi guys, as the title suggests, I am after any first-hand opinions on the Captiva.
I have been doing a bit of reading up on the net, but I wanted to hear from someone who has one, or knows of one really well.
I am looking at spending around $25,000 so around a 2008 model info would be appreciated.
Also, if not a Captiva, what are your recommendations???
Thanks heaps,
Jarrad.
I wonder how many douche 'Errr, its a Daewoo so its automatically shit..' comments this thread gets...
The first release Captiva was crap (not because it was or wasn't a daewoo - it was just crap) - I hear the updated one is better, though haven't driven it.
As far as soft-roaders go.. Grand Vitara's aren't too bad - have driven a few and they're pretty solid - nothing fancy but good for the money.
Try to hold out for a SII if you can. They are a ton better than the early ones. Nothing inherently wrong with the early ones parse, just build quality such as panel/interior fit etc was not brilliant.
Reaper
They had a shitload of problems, i worked in a holden dealership for while and was forever doing stretched timing chains, wiring connector reworks and altenator regulators. The dvd systems in them were always terrible too. Not that terrible of a car now that they have gotta most of the kinks out of them, but definatley go for a later model.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Yeah Troy I was wondering if there would be any Daewoo comments!
I was also looking at the grand vitara cos it's in the price range and looks good. How does it ride and feel tinsnips? As in are the seats comfy???
S1, no. S2, maybe.
But they need to tune the auto in the diesel to lower revs for better fuel economy.
Holden Captiva Review | Car Advice | Reviews
If you can bring yourself to own a Ford, the Territory sh*ts all over the Captiva. The Territory is actually ok off road, much comfier and roomier, more attractive and better build, has a better motor...there's really no reason to get a Captiva over a Territory other than just the badge. And it's not like the Captiva is really a true Holden anyways.
Mate has one and hates it. Always having something done to it. He is awaiting the delivery of a Kluger. As an alternative it depends what you want it for. If just as a people mover then go for a Kluger. Probably more expensive but you get what you pay for. Non of these things are much good for off road.
The whole car is pretty comfy, to be honest. I haven't driven the new motor, but the V6 wasn't bad (finished in 08 from memory). Torquey enough, rides well, fuel economy is ok. Vision is good, seating position is good - seats could use a little more bolstering - but they're far from the dead-flat wrangler seats. Very comfy car for a family hack. Nothing screams superb, but there are no blinding faults either. Worth taking it for a drive.
Just on territories... first release models had significant issues with engine bay rust. I believe the problem was fixed relatively quickly though.
Not a big fan... i'd save the $ (if your not in a rush) and do as people have stated.
Me on the other hand.... I've got my eye on this bad boy.

I have read reports about the early Captivas suffering from excessive front tyre wear, even after having multiple wheel alignments to factory specs. Holden had not been able to determine the cause. They were also criticised for low grade interior plastics but this was improved as production continued.
Early Territories had rust problems, as already mentioned by Tinsnips, and very early wear in front ball joints, which were found to be faulty in production and should have all been replaced by Ford, even when the car is out of warranty. In an extreme case, the balljoint could separate whilst the car was being driven. Nice.
As stated above the territory makes the captiva look like osama's backside on a bad day..........that jeep looks pretty skuxs aye.......
Some of the series 1 Captiva's had problems I've talked to people that had probs with them, but i have also talked to quite a few people that own them and have never had any probs with them at all... I bought a series 2 diesel Captiva and it's bloody unreal haven't had any probs with it the diesel pulls like a train...
i got told by a guy that test drives and reviews cars for a living not to even think about a series 1 capy becuase the series 2 is much better. If you can't stretch to a series 2 then look at something like a
A territory and a Captiva should never be compared to each other as they Territory is a much bigger car, we got the capy because we didn't want a car as big as a terri.
Also i don't know how a terri would be better offroad then a Captiva when a Captiva has more ground clearance but if you really want to go offroad buy a proper 4x4.
