I'm a structural draftsman and use Autocad and Microstation. What's up?
If you want to make 3d parts DONT USE AUTOCAD!!!!! Try to get a copy of autodesk Inventor or even Solidworks. Much easier to make 3d models in as the programs were designed for it. There are also features to make drawings directly off the models you make too. If you use solidworks there are also heaps of tutorial videos on youtube...... probably the same for inventor.
Yep agreed. I told him Solidworks in a PM.
Unfortunately it isnt cheap to buy. But there are some great tutorials if you can get it.
I have a trial copy I play with from time to time but never bought it because it isn't the right program to do complex steel and concrete structures
Well you dont always have to buy....... if you know what i mean. But dont get caught. Im lucky that the uni has heaps of computers with it on them.
Thanks guys! Will get a solid works trail and see how it goes .
sketch up is all right but very basic and not great for building detailed 3d objects, it's good for designing sub boxes and other simplistic structures. to do other stuff is hard.. at least that is what i found when using it... but it is free so go for it.
My dads a land surveyor so you just give us a yell yea???
