    Default Fishing for Bull sharks

I'm going tonight to try in some of the canals, has anyone here done this before? I bought some Wire trace 200lb 4 meters in length. Using whole mullet. Any tips would be appreciated.

You do realise that a lot of people consider them more dangerous than a Great White My best tip would be to make sure someone films you doing this...I get the feeling this aint gonna end well lol.

Don't make the mistake of thinking they're dead if you land one and they remain motionless. Ever.

We have had good success off the Schorncliffe pier and in the mouth of cabbage tree creek & in the pine river.

a Whole Mullet or Larger fish head such as a tuna works well. Be Prepared for a long wait. We normally tie to rod to something so that way we can walk away and not loose it if something grabs it and takes off.

Try it on the Gold Coast. There are thousands there of all sizes.

Few months back we watched a guy keep hauling them in........very ugly things. He claimed he could on a good day get 30. This was north end of GC off a stream running into the ocean.

Any reason? If it's for thrills, I say go for it but if it's to eat I'd suggest either Mako or Gummy. Either way, hang the fk on!

Naa just for thrills. I've taken sharks home before, and it's such a pain skinning them i'll never do it again. More trouble than what it's worth, took me a good hour and a half to get it off. those were just gummy's and shovel nose sharks, imagine skinning a big shark, no thanks.

Were you using burley? I just bought a kilo of pilchards, 4 cans of cat food, tuna oil, and some pellets. Apparently that works really well. Pity there's not a abbitoir around, blood would be good.

Ahh, but the tasty meat from a gummer is totally worth it.

My tip is watch out for the Fuzz... apparently fishing for sharks on the GC is illegal because it attracts them to the area.
Completely agree with the cat food / dog food berley, its Dynamite. Maybe get some other scrap fish and put them in a blender. Also don't set your drag too tight or you'll either loose the shark or take a bath. Oh yeah, take the neighbours dog with you, i hear they attract sharks.

I want to see the pics.

You reminded me of the guys that would sit on the back of their ute and catch sharks off Stockton Beach

Default how to skin a shark ...

I really enjoy fresh flake. Up north, the black-tip sharks are very tasty: as good as anything down south. But they are a pain to skin ...

A few years ago, I had a holiday in Langkawi, Malaysia. Found a really good restaurant, with an enormous menu: ate there most nights, but plenty of new things to try. One evening, the special was "shark steak", which I ordered. What turned up was what I'd call a cutlet: the shark had been cut across, and piece I got included the backbone (not really bone: don't know what else to call it ...), and plenty of flesh, but it hadn't been skinned. The piece had been barbecued. Here's the funny bit: when I slid my knife under a corner of the skin, it easily came away in one piece. So, the answer to the question "how to skin a shark ?" might be: DON'T, until after it's cooked. And to finish the story, it tasted great.

I've never fished in Queensland, but I've heard terrible stories about them bull-sharks.

Don't worry, you'll get pics this was only my first night. I've already seen a monster, and i'm keen to try again. Only 5 mins down the street from me.

Personally I wouldn't eat bull shark… and I probably wouldn't eat any shark that was over 4 foot.

I remember watching TT and some bloke was doing this from his 2nd story balcony... Looks like you'd be up for a long fight...
