Just reading people's posts on their crashes and got me wondering how many people out there swerve for a kangaroo to avoid an accident.
I myself have hit plenty because I won't swerve for a kangaroo , but if it was a bull I think I would take my chances of swerving.
So do you swerve or not?
Aim and nail it!
I swerve, ive hit a few
I was always taught to never swerve but I still did a few times on instinct. Never at high speed. They also teach you to not jump on the brakes but majority of roo encounters I have had is in the middle of nowhere so no chance of getting rear ended. Swerving can end a lot worse than a roo sitting in your passenger seat.
I tried roo whistlers, driving with horn blaring, mega spotlights to blind them, huge roo bars etc and NOTHING will prevent them from jumping in front of you. They are that stupid that they will run into the side of the car and faceplant your door if you don't run them over first.
Good insurance and blat away I say
swerve !! I would have if I'd seen him in time... airbags are not fun.

slow down and keep going straight I had one jump across the road right infront earlier this year, I missed it by CM the car next to me nailed it if I had of swerved I could have had a nasty accident

Depends on the situation. If i can swerve, avoid an accident and insurance excess then yes I will swerve. If it means swerving and heaving a head on will just give the brakes a warm up and hope the damage isn't too much that the car can be traded in without loss![]()

Sometimes not much you can do when they come out of the dark into your path.. Years ago my brother almost hit one. He swerved and the kangaroo moved in the same direction twice (bedazzled by the lights) until he waited until the last split second to swerve and avoid it. He avoided the roo but not the number 2's.

I'd prefer to swerve, if it's safe, and get a ding that I can either fix myself, or pay excess for, rather than writing off my car due to a Kangaroo. Before I did any drastic fully sick drift e-brake shit, I'd try to slow down, and if anyone was behind me, I'd slow down a bit harder but never slam the brakes on, that's worse than anything lol

It's gonna depend on the situation though. I had one come out in front of me on the F3 of all places. Was early morning, no other cars around me and 3 empty lanes. ####in oath I swerved.
But out in the country, on a tree lined dirt road...just hit it.
hit it, swerving is much more dangerous. Plus if it's dead take it home for tea.
In my VN i'd swerve, in the zook i'd pin it
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
I'd just slam on the anchors. I know people keep saying thats a bad idea because the guy behind you will hit you, well thats thier problem, if they hit me than they pay for my repairs.
With the possible exception of those who have done advanced driving courses of those with good instincts or lots of experience, your first reflex when you see danger in front of you is to hit your brakes. If you try to slam on your brakes and swerve at the same time, you will be in a world of hurt.

depends on the situation (which is hard to judge in a fraction of a second i know) most of the time if i see one its on a near deserted country road so ill swerve/brake whatever i have to do.
however my daily driver has bilsteins/whiteline bars/fresh bushes etc so it handles like its on rails. i wouldnt like to try swerving in something with old flogged out suspension. and if its wet any evasive action is done VERY gently
after seeing many roos i can nearly read what they are gonna do, if they jump full bolt across your lane, aim for them, guarentee you miss, if there just sitting there and about to jump onto the road, DONT brake, make sure no traffic is comming and go into the other lane, ive followed this method and is worked countless timesbut thats just me, mum hit a roo the other week, spun out and went down a ditch ... swearve and brake - ABS = formula for trouble
Depends on a lot of factors. Didn't have time to react when we hit one in the courier just nailed it with the bullbar plus wouldn't of been able to anyway being gravel. Wouldn't try it in the patrol because I doubt the aluminium bullbar could handle it. In a commo on an empty high way I would just hit the brakes or swerve if there was room. Most of the time though it's a matter of seconds (assuming your travelling at 100km/h) before you see it and hit it though.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
dont swerve nail the bastard
i hit a big grey 4 mths ago i had no time to react
yeah the acess hurt but it ws nothing considering my car was only 8 weeks old
Lols at the guy who has never hit one. As for swerve or not - really depends on the situation. Last one I hit did involve a swerve but only because there was nothing coming and it would have been in the middle of the bonnet if I didn't. There is a fair chance of it coming thru the screen and being in the front seat with us. Even then I hit it with the LH headlight and did a fair amount of damage. This was 1am boxing day (1 hour after christmas day ended) somewhere near Parkes NSW heading to QLD with 2 boats on the back. I killed more wild life on that trip than 15 years of driving combined. Interesting trip to say the least

i have a mate who swerved to miss a roo , and it was wet he spun the car into a tree , wiped the hole side out .
VERY lucky he didnt kill himself or someone else in the car , brake and steer straight the car can be replaced
