I can't find it... And I have to say that in "A History of Time" anyone responsible for "inventing the future" would have to be significantly acknowledged. You bastard Steven Hawking!!!
He Invented the Future and Led Us There
LOL!!! Well that's quite possibly the most significant contribution to humanity. Without him we'd all still be living in the past (or worse, the present). Thank you Steve Jobs!!! THANK YOU!!!
I predict a Steve Jobs may bring an end to Chuck Norris. Actually maybe he's not dead. Maybe he's just in transition and will soon reappear as Dr Manhattan...
Cant you just start a facebook page instead of this thread?
He has a valid point though, He was just a company CEO.
Would there be such a massive out cry if it was the head of CBA or Officeworks who died, no it would be a tiny 2 sentence article in the bottom corner of page 37 in a newspaper not front page of every news station and paper in the world.
What did the guy really do, Yeah O.k he donated some of his money to charity and ran a computer company.
I think you will find alot of media outlets utilise Apple technology, and the 'free thinkers' of our age as well.
They are simply paying hommage to someone who they were willing to shell out a months worth of pay each year for the newest shiney thing, regardless of whether it had changed as far as needs go, not wants.
Me personally, I agree that it is being overhyped. Nothing new though, the media will run with a story until it dies, no pun intended. Gotta sell their bias tabloid opinions now. mmmk.
Steve Jobs was the driving force behind the affordable compact home computer, which has changed the world. Gates & co came in later, in cohorts with IBM.
Without him you wouldnt have the smart phone ( a gps, camera, voice recorder, internet accessing computer, and phone, all in your pocket any time you need them), his brand or any other.
Without him you wouldnt have organised, legal and cheap downloads of music at any time you want them, via iTunes or anywhere else..
Without him tablet computers would not exist, or personal mp3 players, Apple branded or not.
Without him, your car may not even have an ECU to make it run well.
Without personal computing, the whole electronics industry could have taken a completely different direction. Personal computing made miniaturisation necessary and commercially viable, and caused massive advances in so many things on this world.
Your phone, your microwave, your tv, your car, pretty much anything electrical you use in your day to day life all have computers in some form.
He has more patents than Thomas Edison. He may not have designed every piece of the electrical equipment, but the design concepts, the intellectual property, belong to him. The same applies to Edison, and just like Edison, he thought of it first.
The only piece of Apple hardware I have ever owned is my phone, and thats just because it was a better plan than the HTC I was using. I dont particularly like Apple computers, and have to this point had nothing to do with tablet computers.
I do like my Windows computers though, and I appreciate Steve Jobs for the concept that made my computer possible just as much as his own brand.
The guy has made more contribution to our current way of life than any other person in the last fifty years. He deserves respect.
Although I don't agree with a lot of what Dax wrote, he did take what had been previously thought of, and make it better.

That's what I mean, Apple took previous ideas and made them better before anyone else, which was pretty smart on their part. Then again, they have the tendency to release stuff too fast, causing their stuff to be the first, but the most buggy lol. Like, you could say the
Let's take a walk back in time to this little baby, which was probably the basis of every touch phone you see now:

You need to educate yourself...
None of what I've replied with is an attempt to disrespect, however almost EVERYTHING Steve Jobs did, was take an already good idea, recreate it, make it easier, market it, sell it and make it popular. Much respect to him for that! But as far as coming up with anything ground breaking in concept, nope. NOTHING.
The Pub: Talk about anything not relating to cars or Commodores in general.
Pretty much. It's like saying Mark Zuck....Zuck...."The Facebook Guy" created Social Networking. Yes, he runs the most successful social networking site in the world, but there were tonnes before his, he just took the idea, and made it better, more popular, MARKETED it better, thus making it more successful.
Here's a question for everyone, can someone tell me the name of the employees who designed, coded, and brought the iPad, iPhone etc to life? Nope, I sure as hell can't. Not saying Steve Jobs was a bad guy, I personally think the hype is overrated because all he was, was a CEO. Someones boss. It's not like he thought of all the ideas for the iphones etc, or the technology that goes into them. He just says "I want a touch screen phone with these features" and bam, 1000 other people make it happen.
No disrespect, I just think it's too hyped up for steve jobs. Saying that, though, the same would happen if Bill Gates died, I guess.

The guy was clever. He started a company, left the company. He started Pixar, He sold it. He went back to apple when it had 90 days before going into receivership. He turned it around and made one of the most successful companies of our time.
World Leader - No.
Great salesman - Yes.
Is his death sad? Yes, anyone who suffers with cancer deserves sympathy.
Does his death PERSONALLY affect us? No, unless your a close friend or family.
Done.
(something tells me that they won't commision me to write his autobiography)
All I can say is that, I guess an Apple a day can't keep the doctor at bay.
-Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
James Bovard, Civil Libertarian (1994)
-Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.
P.J. O'Rourke, Civil Libertarian
-Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short Phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Ronald Reagan (1986)
Computers existed before Steve Jobs, sure. He didnt invent the internet, or the phone, or sms. He didnt design the equipment personally either.
What he did do was take all these things from the realm of government and military, and place them in the hands of the popular consumer. He had a vision and saw it through, making more changes to the world than you or I will ever do.
I stand by what I said. He changed the world. You dont need to do all of the soldering or design the electronics to come up with something completely different. He had ideas and vision and saw them through. I am not an Apple guy as I said, but while we are posting little bits of crap on this forum, he was making billions creating the things you see as a part of every day life. He certainly has my respect.
Yeah there were computers around before his. All you needed was a thorough knowledge of Basic or C+ and you could even use them. He made a computer that anyone could use... not just him of course, there were two of them, - the other guy wrote the software.
Henry Ford didnt invent the V8 either. His engineers told him it couldnt be done, but he insisted it could be, and told them to go back and try again. If he hadnt done so, the V8 may never have been built, who knows.
You dont have to invent something to make it happen, you just need to have the vision to see that it can be done, and what uses it might have..
I see they are now making one piece wheels, with no air.. just a flexible wheel with a rubber outer. It handles better, grips better, never gets flat, and weighs a fraction of the current system. Have they invented something completely new, or is it just a minor improvement on the current system? Of course, its a wheel. Its round. It holds a car off the ground... but its revolutionary, works better and in a different way than the original. Is it a new invention, or just another wheel?
Same applies to most of Steve Jobs stuff.
*An autobiography by definition is written by the subject, so with the subject dead, no autobiography will ever be possible unless he wrote one before he died.
