today, with a day off from work, we thought we should move some stuff from the yard, the old fella had the idea seeing as my mums magna was there, to just use that.
anyhoo the result was a chain snapping and a gnarly hole left in my mums (what was) perfect magna.
heres some pictures of our stupid blunder, i thought it would give some of you blokes a chuckle.

I'm no panel beater but I think you need a new boot.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
my mum knows, shes says its fine because it was an accident, but i still feel pretty stupid/bad about it.
i was hoping for smart arse comments, they might put a smile on my face.
sort of like wraiths lol
Yeah I mean you wouldn't want your mum to .... snap .... at you

You could link this to the dumb things you have done working on a car....
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Your F**K'D
You're lucky it didn't go through the rear window and kill you. I've seen this kinda thing happen alot in the 4wding scene. A chain is not ideal for pulling anything, they are not built the shock loads from the snatch effect that can happen and only designed for lifting.
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
Oh well, unlucky mate, you can't chainge whats happened...

When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
At least it wasn't a holden that was damaged. Ever since my missus got rid of her magna i can't stand the bloody things. '96 model magnas are pieces of crud.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

No, not quite. A chain is not designed for the snatch effect as it has very little elasticity, but they are rated for load. Whether that load is a pull or a lift. But once a chain has been used to pull, it must never be used again to lift, as the pulling load is different to a lifting load and the chain is no longer at it's rated lifting load.
I've seen it happen too, but it's never the chain that snaps, it's the towball that breaks because people loop the chain over the towball instead of attaching to a designated tow hook or the chassis.
Guess you better "chain'ge" that boot over
i hope you have some spare CHAINge to buy her a new boot.
well, we weren't using the chain for towing/pulling, we had the tow rope attached to a chain, which then broke and went into the boot.
and so far these bad puns are alright, lol
great work! speed holes help with everything!
reminds me of this time at a friends place.
wanted to remove a tree/shrub (1.3m tall) thing that was dead.
went and got rope. tied to shrub. tied to towbar. started to pull.
rope snapped knocking out a reverse sensor. which was put back in that day.
and no the shrub didnt come out of the ground if your wondering =P
Don't ever use the factory recovery eye bolt that comes on the FG Falcon. We tried to snatch out a dude at work and it snapped, the eye bolt smacked the brake line that runs over the diff on the recovery vehicle (ML Triton) and split it.
speed holes are for the bonnet man...
nice work... would have sounded awesome.
Nah no new boot needed, just cover the holes with a VE Series I Holden badge........![]()
