Lets see... 120 Hours for learner drivers, that hasnt helped ANYONE. Passenger Restrictions for Red P Platers; Great idea blokes! Really helps me and my mates when we want to go out drinking and im dezzo, or when we want to fish. Speed Limits (80-90-100) Not sure how these help ANYTHING except make it more frustrating for the driver and other motorists. V8 and High performance cars i can understand, but honestly i know a mate in a crappy excel who does 120 down the street opposite to me. And now they want to ban us from driving at night? Hmm. Whats going to happen? Freddy F*cking Kruger will come out and chop us up? We CAN'T learn to drive at night IF YOU BAN US. But there's no talk of more police recruits... More cops = Less hoons.

Something to think about. Are P platers really writing them selves off at an alarming rate or is it now more apparent due to excessive media coverage.

Of course its the media exposure- its an easy stereotypical target to get the governments POV across. I personally think that older people and people who don't know BASIC road rules are bigger concerns, but its harder to justify spending money to educate, so its easier to attack young drivers, using the inexperience card.

Granted some are cockheads who think they're God, but as with most things, that's a minority.

Exactly, I'm on my P-plates and have nearly been involved in several crashes, none of which have been my fault. For instance, the other day I was nearly hit by an old lady in a round about who failed to indicate she was turning right, luckily I was slow enough on the throttle to still have enough room in front of my to give her right of way.

I am so sick of the stereotypical targeting from the media, especially when the spotlight is shone on us by politicians trying to raise their pathetic public ratings.

More money needs to be going into retesting more 'experienced' drivers, as opposed to constantly implementing more bullshit ways to screw us over.
I see so much dodgey F###ing driving from older licensed drivers that it isn't funny.

LOL, so you failed to give way to someone already on the roundabout and almost caused an accident? This is why we have P plates. Experience would tell you that you trust no-one and wait until you are clear. Sure she did not indicate, but at the end of the day it would have been you who was at fault.
In almost all instances old people can be predicted, young dumb and wanting to be full of cum drivers are unpredictable and so many scare me when I see what they do every day on the roads.

Not to pick on P platers (because obviously not everyone is a wreckless fool) but as others have said i see them coming and brace myself. "oh here comes another P plater, i'll have to get out of their way as they know everything". They flash their indicator once, throw themselves in and out of lanes and drive with more disregard than the kids at sideshow alley on the "dodge'em cars". I think it took a year or two into my opens before i showed that sort of confidence on the roads. Maybe i'm just jealous that i'm not as cool as them.

    Something else to think about:

So far this is how much it cost me to get my Green P's,

    L's
First Test attempt $30 (Failed because I said a Truck drivers blood alcohol limit is .05 its actually .02 any question to do with alcohol wrong = instant fail)
    Second Attempt $30
    Purchase of L's License $40
Driving Lessons 8x$50= $400 (over a period of twelve months)

    Red P's
    Driving Test $50
    Purchase of License $50

    Green P's
Knowledge Test $50 (if you fail you pay this again, this a computer test -_-)
    Purchase of License $70

So far I have had to spend $720 just to get my green p's and that figure doesn't account for all the time, money and stress spent getting those ####ing 120 hours completed.

Where is this money going? Certainly not the Pacific Highway bypass in Coffs Harbour that continues to Kill every year.

    Wtf Government :/

    What high horse exactly?

The guy posted he broke the law and blamed the old person for not giving way. I was unaware stating he was in the wrong was being on a high horse.

Seriously, try harder to come up with something better next time(I am sure you have another 5000 word post to add on a similar story).

We need more driver education, better/tougher licensing systems, a place where we CAN go to skid, drift, speed, ect banning at night is shit, simply put, they banned v8's but I see a ve v6 has 60 more kw than my old 253, and your average 4pot is also quicker, it hasn't fixed anything, spend some money from revenue. Qld just pulled all they're cameras and magically, less crashes....

A 14 year old driver killed his mate on the weekend sparking fresh debate on these driver curfews

Calls for restricting young drivers as another teen dies

Personally I cant see how any license restrictions can have any effect on a kid who's 4 years off being effected by them.

    Huh?

Queensland converted 2 point to point cameras (so I guess they 'pulled' the point to point cameras .. kinda .. ) to fixed speed cameras. These were the ones at Caloundra Rd turnoff and Wild Horse mountain. They will now become a triple whammy in a 40km section of road, starting from the most successful (ie profitable) camera in the state, at Burpengary.

What cameras have they pulled? Who says there are less crashes?

The only mention of cameras I can find is this quote

'Queensland Police Minister Neil Roberts chose not to respond to suggestions the 16 fixed speed cameras in south-east Queensland were purely revenue raisers.

He said the move to increase the number of systems was based purely on improving road safety.

“In 2008, the rate of detection of speeding motorists at fixed speed camera sites was around three vehicles per 1000.

"Today the rate is 0.91 per 1000 vehicles,” he said.'

I dont see a mention of reduced crashes in there either, just a reduced number of people being caught speeding. Maybe the signs in the km's leading up to the cameras saying 'warning speed camera ahead 24hrs' had something to do with that...

Dont get me wrong, I am not in favour of speed cameras. I have heard talk lately of councils considering doing the exact opposite of what QLD has just done with those 2 cameras.. making all speed cameras a 'point to point' system, which is a lot more reasonable to me, as it penalises you for a high average speed, not a momentary climb in speed down a short hill whilst still on cruise control.

At the moment, slow down for the fixed camera, then speed up again, you will be ok most of the time. Point to point, goes on average speed. Get from point A to point B too fast, then you have been speeding consistently.

All I am saying is I dont think the cameras have been pulled, nor are there less crashes.

I think most of the cameras should be pulled, but I doubt it will reduce or increase crashes. It will just mean governments will need to find another way to screw you for your cash.

The rest of your post, agreed

It is stupid, yes I am on my green P's and live in the rural parts of Australia where there is no public transport, so they expect you people to get government hand outs rather then going out and making a dollar for themselves, yes there is some stupid drivers out there but it can be put down to driver training and discipline. Australia should have Germany's training for young drivers.

maybe if everyone just drove with some sort of responsible effort instead of being ########s on the roads such as tailgating/ speeding/ getting out of the right lane on freeways/ not indicating/hooning....idiots in government depts wouldnt have to make up idiotic laws....we are all to blame not just p platers but the problem with p platers is that they think there invincible...look dudes and dudettes your driving a 2 ton weapon that can kill....im not saying all of p platers are idiots there are a few out there who are actually good drivers but some of you p platers are just ########s youve had your license for 2 minutes and think its your right to stuff it up for other legit drivers and then wonder why p platers get picked on....learn to obey the road rules and im not just talking p platers slow down if it takes you 5 mins longer so be it....and yo p plater in your hotted up Hyundai trying to line me up at the lights....your an idiot sunshine your not impressing me with that 2 inch burnout....on any given day ill beat you in f****n reverse you moron ....grrrrrrrr lucky this isnt a motor bike forum ive got a few things to say about some of those idiots grrrrrr......damn im such a grouch lol
