Five-Time champion Mark Skaife has announced he will step down from driving to take up his role as Chairman of the V8 Supercars Commission.
After competing as an endurance-only driver for the past three years – and last two for TeamVodafone where he won two L&H 500s and a Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with Craig Lowndes – Skaife has elected to stop driving and officially announced his decision this morning on the Gold Coast on the eve of the Armor All Gold Coast 600

If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Aka the boss of "Taxi Racing - Australia"...
*yawn*
used to love skaifey but as ive grown up ive noticed what a tool he is in general...in particular when compared to other drivers
Yo.
its funny how people say that sort of thing once someone no longer has their name engraved on the top step. the same thing is said about schumacher and rossi, but there is no denying their acheivments... they have achived things we may never see in our life times again.
its good to see someone with such a vast knowlege of the sport take a role that can help improve it and make it an even better show.
i don't think what the guy is like as a person is in any way relevent if he is out for the good of the sport.
And the news in this is??? Been common knowledge for months.
Reaper
He will be back.
having seen the direction v8's have been taking i wouldnt be surprised if they start running turbo charged 4 bangers... just to show F1 how it should be done obviously
Having met Skaife myself, i think it'd be a loss for the sport. He might not know how to handle his fans too well, or maybe he just gets frustrated and shitty at all the attention......who knows??
He was fine with me, took the time out to say hello and have a chat whilst signing my shirt.
he is a great driver and has achieved a great deal as a driver....i have to agree with Oscar03
Follow Your Dreams......RIP Brocky 1945 - 2006......May God Rest Your Soul
No doubt he can drive, but how many times do these blokes have to retire before it actually happens????
It happens in every sport around the world, and quite alot in AFL. Michael Schumacher and Michael Jordan are probably two of the biggest names to return after 'retiring'.
As for Skaife, aslong as he keep beating those Falcons, I say he can drive as much as he likes. He is clearly still in top form.
Well, thats pretty easy, dont retire![]()
