I saw an accident today, that involved a rather, um, large woman who hit another car... I was sitting at the roundabout watching it, she was unable to see in her "blind" spot as she couldn't actually move her head, or body around to see... She literally took up the entire half of the car (albeit she was driving an excel).

It made me think, how freaking dangerous is this?

Has anyone else ever seen something like this happen?

ps/ I don't intend this thread as a poke at large people, whatsoever. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever seen it.

I was driving behind a driver who was swerving really bad & suddenly, and turns out it was this really REALLY fat guy who works at my GF's work, and she was telling me abot how fat he was earlier that day, and his gut was squashed under the bottom of the steering wheel, causing him to swerve violently.

I couldn't help but laugh (not in a mean way) at this... My nan won't get in my car as she thinks it's too low (hardly!), and won't get in my husband's car as she thinks his Landcruiser is too high. You never win with the elderly.

Interesting thread, i think you've just cracked the case.
I've got a picture stuck in my head of this guy in a magna beside me who suddenly swerved towards my C'dore. I was like WTF dude, and turned to see what was going on, to see him try to wrestle with his gut and adjust the seatbelt. I couldn't help but do a double take- during which time the traffic in front of me all slammed the brakes on and stopped so when i looked to the front again..... woops BANG ouch ...... so yeah, super Fat drivers are dangerous. I forgot to tell the cops he was a Fat ass, it might have saved mine.!!

Some people just flat out shouldn't be able to drive with side view mirrors.... They recon they are a safety feature but that's bullshit for obvious reason...

My Nan who lives in Chatswood near Sydney is shocking at driving around in her pulsar and cutting people off because she never turns her head when changing lanes ect, her excuse is her neck gets sore but she play's 9 holes of golf no worries

It remind me of a time she was taking her sweet time pulling out of an intersection onto Fullers Rd and a truck behind her was getting the shits because she would miss even the biggest of gaps so he nudged her out onto the road forcing the traffic to stop so we could cross...ha ha ha...Poor thing was terrified...

First time I have ever heard an 85 year old swear....

Haha, there was a smart car driving around Hamilton with two rather large guys in it. I'm sure they were not that huge, but in a smart car they looked massive!

Poor little smart car looked like is was struggling, but it kinda looked cool sacked out!

I don't know about his, I refuse to believe anyone who can fit in an excel is too fat to be able to move their head to check blind spot. You would have to some sort of super morbidly obese to not be able to move your head like that and these people would simply not fit in an excel. I think you are making assumptions and her being fat had nothing to do with it, she was just a crap driver. Skinny people don't check their blind spots too, maybe they are a danger on the roads, is it because they don't eat enough that they don't have the strength to turn their heads? Ridiculous yeah.. but so is blaming crap driving on obesity.

I've been morbidly obese. I also have scheuermann. Neither have stopped me from checking a blind spot. Truth shes just a crappy arse driver who more than likely to lazy to check surroundings.
