    Default Hard Rubbish time again

So this arvo i came home from work and began to go through all the family crap out onto the street for hard rubbish collection.

And of course every year like clock work the same beat up old cars towing there trailers troll the streets collecting our rubbish for what ever reason.

which got me thinking what s the best thing you have ever scavenged from hard rubbish???

I used to go around smashing the glass on all the old TV's people would throw out. I was a little shit in the day lol.

We never took people's rubbish, f-ck that, half of it near us is shit anyway. I did, however, take some guy's whipper snipper once when he accidentally left it outside. We later sold it.

Na haven't grabbed anything but it is pretty funny as you say seeing the garbage trolls coming out of the woodworks. Recycyling whitegoods is fair enough but some of the stuff is not worth it.

I got a 7 foot teddy bear for the dog sitting on the side of the road. He devoured it in days but he had a tonne of fun!

This thread reminds me of a Sunny in Philadelphia episode...

I just picked up a 68 cm flat screen CRT, perfect condition makes a nice little addition for my room. Can't afford to go get a big LCD atm.

We picked up an LCD monitor last year. Also got an IBM pc this year, just sitting there. Good stuff if you have a look, society is very throw away these days.

we dont get hard rubbish so i never get see any of this stuff.

however if we got to keep/sell the left overs from work (industrial electrical works.....)... =P
if your wondering, copper is about $7 a kilo striped or bare, thats why every man and his dog wants to steal it and scrap it.
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that

there is good money to be made from recycling metals and the more you sort the more you make.
some of you may think it is funny that these scabs are out there taking RUBBISH, but believe me when done right you can make more than a weeks pay +, in one night easily.
and to the OP I scabed an big old welder and to very heavy transformers 3hrs stripping and down to the scrap yard $620.
btw an old copper hot water tank is worth around $80 when the metal prices are right.

We get 4 domestic waste clean ups a year, we can book the council clean up to come pick up bulky waste so long as it isn't building materials, car parts and a few other items. We have never used the service and it shits me that there are so many wankers in our neighbourhood that just throw their shit out on the nature strip without even booking a council clean up. The shit sits there for weeks and kids scrounge through the shit and it ends up all over the damn place and in the reserve next door. I've been so tempted to throw some petrol over a couple of these repeat offenders piles and throw a match on them and they can have a bonfire in their front yard instead of a pile of shit all over our street.

my best mates uncle (yes its true -.- ) does the council pick ups in sydney and he is ALWAYS bringing home loads of stuff, some of the greater things were 2 free standing speakers, each with 2 10" subs and 2 1" tweeters, and a 140cc 4stroke motorbike that had a new spark plug and a blocked carby.

i myself used to go take old mowers etc and fix them and sell them for a bit when i was around 16 - 17 i remember once walking 3 suburbs over and picking up a honda mower that i saw whilst getting a ride home from work (worked at a mower shop) and then pushing it all the way home, somebody had tipped it wrong and put oil all through the carby and air filter, fixed her up and made a WHOPPING $250! which was $10 less than an entire weeks pay.
also a 12" sub and box, the sub was blown but the magnet that i took from it has been an invaluable bolt/screw holder. and a blaupunkt amp that i still use in my excel.

    pretty sure thats about it...

In high school it was about a 2k walk from home to the bust stop so during hard rubbish I used scavange old bikes from the hard rubbish piles to use as transport and dump them in another pile when I was done. Worked well for a few weeks a year

We scored a Brand Spanking new Stainless steel Fridge. We were driving past some la de da fancy house and the owner was just chucking it out cause it didnt work and they couldn't be bothered fixing it as they didn't have time.

One compressor seal later and some gas and it green to go again. were still using it. It gets passed between the family members.

We just had the collections done outside out house, I wheeled out 2 of my old pit bikes. They were all bent up, the engines were ####ed and would cost more to fix the to replace. I had striped all the good stuff off them and took them out the front, not 2 minutes later i was carry more crap out and some fella was already chucking them in his ute.

We get the opposite. In my area you are limited to what you can throw out, but I live in a townhouse so we're allotted more. But that means certain lovely people come by at night and basically dump the crap they can't put out on their lots, in our front entrance way.
