Ok, I can understand if this guy was out in the heat of the action [Mind the pun], but this is rediculous:
"He was working in the background in department roles that kept him out of harm's way," he said.
"All of a sudden the fire service said he was too much of a risk to be employed and sacked him last week on the spot."

He's not flying firefighting helicopters and trucks, I don't see the problem with him working there.

I don't see a problem with it unless he knew he had this condition and deceived the service by not disclosing it. Then it becomes an ethical/trust issue not a medical one.

From the report on TV, I think he actually did do some on field fire fighting, in which if that is the case, then Julie is right. But, from the rest of the reports, he mainly worked at the desk and was really good at his job. I would like to know how frequent his episodes were, though, because it seems they just randomly decided to fire him.

Hed be perfect for training firefighters and help on ground level. sure in the fire could be seen as dangerous to others but more importantly himself. but surely with the right treatment he can live whats left of his life comfortably enough in the workforce.

Have to agree here.
Could be as simple as they want an operational workforce rather than unusable "fire fighters". I would be interested to know if this guy is receiving a fire fighters wage or an admin assistant style wage.
