    Default Engagement Ring Options

Looking for recommendations in the Melbourne area for engagement rings.

I am NOT interested in online. I am NOT interested in buying overseas.

I want to see the thing up close and personal and be sure I'm getting what I'm paying for.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

Looking at getting a 1ct D Vi princess cut in a white gold setting. The 1ct can be made up of one main princess cut and smaller diamonds set into the band. Also looking at the possibility of getting a set - engagement/wedding - so they match.

    Discuss...

    Thanks,
    Rufys

I had my mrs. one made here Diamond Rings, Diamond Jewellery, Jewellery Repairs, Jewellery Designers, All Your Jewellery Needs.

I know it's in geelong, but I organised everything via email then just went in and picked it up when it was ready.

Easily 3/4 cheaper than buying anywhere else, you can design your own ring or have it made simliar to one you like.

Whats your budget for such a ring?

I had an identical one made up for the missus (D VS1), 1.03 ct in total, 18 ct yellow and white gold combination and it came to $7400.

Additional wedding band with the diamonds set into the shoulders was an additional $2300.

Budget is secondary to finding the right ring that matches the criteria.

Just to make it clear - I will NOT be going overseas to buy a ring.

Thanks Nathan - will check out the place in Geelong.

PS: Great customer service and some AWESOME chicks to look at while your mrs ogles the rings Best of all, all her friends KNOW you looked after and spent a good $ haha.

If you can't tell this is where we got the wifes after having a disaster story with a custom made one.

Pfft, I bought a cheap ring to propose, then took her shopping for her dream ring No way in hell I would spend 15k+ on something that she didn't choose.

Actually, it was about a 3% difference (for the diamonds). Diamonds do not differ in price for the same quality just because it is at a shop. Where they make the extra is the gold and ring design.

You asked for recommendations, I gave you one.

If I'm spending $10k (give or take) the I'm the one who will bloody well decide what it gets spent on and propose with the ACTUAL ring. If you don't know your girl well enough to know what she will like then why even propose?

I was looking on the wrong section of the Tiffany's website before so I take that back. Their platinum rings are pretty decent looking.
Liking this one. 1.2ct with the princess cut matching wedding band (click thumb in top right):

Its called safety, I am not one for risk. If i think there could be any chance she wont like something, I let her decide.

    Good luck with it all!

My missus gave me plenty of hints, but in the end I let her decide. She knew/suspected I was going to propose anyway.

What I did was get the ring made up, sized and all, and then made her sweat it out for another few months before springing it on her. Awesome to watch hehe.

As minux said, when you are forking out cash like that its not the risk I'm prepared to take. My wife gets all her jewellery custom made so I didn't want to get her something she wouldn't have liked.

    Good luck.

we used a guy in the city at the corner of collins and swantson st, 3rd floor.
he had all different types and size of diamonds and cut them the way we wanted and made the ring him self.
he was excelent on price and it came with an independant valuation.
cant remember his name but can find out for you.

Who says you make bad decisions with every risk?

You don't , no one does.

Well some people are idiots, but IMO a life lived in our minuscule little zones of safety is an average one

I do not need any more risk in life, jumping out of planes and shooting people for a living was risk enough, now I like to be mellow.

worst part would be them saying, yessss honey i love it, and you feeling good but them actually not liking it on the inside, id show her before i bought it. After reading how much people spend on rings, f*** getting married haha

I've decided to go with something from Tiffany's for the ring... She already LOVES anything from there. Platinum will be good as she already has come sterling silver and some platinum jewelery and nothing gold.

And I'm still quite confident I can pick the perfect ring!
