I had a parcel dropped at my door today which clearly had a sticker saying that a signature is required. My missus wasn't not home when it was dropped neither was I and we haven't authorised any of the neighbors to sign on our behalf. My only guess is that the lazy arsed delivery driver did a fake signature and dropped it anyway. Normally I wouldn't mind if the parcel was small enough to fit between the for and the screen door but the box was 300mm x 400 mm x 1000mm and clearly visible from the road and it was worth around 600 bucks.
I'm just wondering people's opinions and if I should go ahead and lodge a complaint. I would report the article missing by I've already left feedback for it on eBay.
(The only reason I left feedback already was because my missus found the parcel at 1:30, put it inside and didn't tell me it was left on the doorstep until she got home at 6pm.)
Sometimes I would be happy if they signed for me. Saves running down to the post office to pick it up later.
But, I see your point if it had been stolen. Its not Ebays fault, its Aus post. I would complain if your not happy.
I'd complain, but can't see it doing alot for you seeing you can't claim it as taken or anything. I cant see them caring much.
Ive had multiple issues with AusPost in my area.
I collect figurines from video games, some of them are quite expensive. Anyway had one comming from the US was really excited, had tracking, insurance, sig required etc etc.
Anyway checked my tracking one day, said it had been delivered and signed for. Yet no sign of it.
Rang Aus Post, someone with an Asian name had signed for it, I cracked it and said does my name sound similar. Anyway a month later an old asian man knocked on my door and said it was delivered to the wrong address.
I rang them and complained and they pretty much said...well you got your package what are you complaining about?
Same thing happened when i ordered new shoes. Got 2 pairs from DC, cost about 300 bucks. Sig required, do not safe drop.
Come home from work, sitting on the front steps in plain view.
New modem from Optus, I saw the bloke come to the door and he threw the package up the front steps. Its 5 steps so it was a throw/slide.
Between that, shit going to number 27 instead of 21. I hate Aus Post in this area.
I work pretty much 5 min walk from the Aus Post distribution center in Mt Waverley, id love to be able to just pick it up from there and avoid all the mess.
This is why I have everything delivered to my office. It's given to Reception who either sign for it or ring me to come down and sign.
I was reading a story on another forum yesterday about a guy who ordered a 40 inch TV from Big W with explicit delivery instructions to not leave unattended. It never arrived so he rang the store next day only to be told it had been dropped off. No one is taking responsibility for it and currently it looks like he is out of pocket.
Yeah have had that problem to. Item delivered then it arrives 2 days later.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Auspost is shit.
and they wonder why they are starting to go out of business.
Go to post office, 1 person serving and line out the door, they never seem to care how busy it is, when I actually questioned them on this they said "oh well, what are the customers going to do, not pick up their stuff"
Then when I'm meant to get stuff delivered and they dont even attempt to, just see the mailman drop the pickup slip in the mail even though its meant to be delivered.....
I had the same issue with them a few years back.I got a pioneer deck for my car from eBay (worth$900 back then)only to come home and find it stuffed in my letter box in the rain.Lucky the iteam was still in good working order.
Ordered 4 rotors about a months ago back 2 turned up, front 2 took 10 days to catch up !
And they were labeled 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 posted the same time ,same place .
Aust post's reply was sorry we will look in to it
mean while my roadie goes begging and im out of pocket for another $110...Grrrr
parcels are delivered by "contractors" i have no end of drama's with the retard in my area, auspost wont deal with the issue's. Instead i was given a phone number to call to have it dealt with.
I live next door to a primary school in a shit area (every week a few bins get burnt overnight on bin night, next block up a retarded guy on a pushbike was attacked and hospitalised by a few 15 yr olds) if that gives an idea of the area....
well i rent in a property that's got two houses on it......
the local wanker auspost parcel contractor many times has delivered my items to my neighbour's unnattended front door despite the item's being marked "do not safe drop"
1. he keeps delivering my items to someone elses home
2. the items are clearly visible from the street with alot of passing foot traffic
3. items marked "do not safe drop" mean if no-one's present at the address, item is to be taken back to LPO and a card left in the letterbox
4. two items were delivered to my neighbour that were registered and he still insisted on leaving them with her and having her sign for them despite her not living at "my address" and she was never and will not ever be authorised to sign for my items....
I rang the hotline i was given and was met with a unhelpful condescending rag on her monthly whom has so far failed to rectify my issues.
Short of this, i'm thinking of taking a day off work and catching my local contractor in the act of being a lazy useless #### and smacking the **** in the head.
Most of my items i buy are the usual couple of hundred dollar car parts i can't afford to buy replacements of if my item get's stolen or destroyed due to not being delivered safely to me or left with the LPO.
so OP, i'm with you, yes auspost and the parcel contractors are crap. But on the other hand, i've had a courier from TNT fired cause i caught him on my surveilance camera theiving car parts when he came for a unattended parcel pickup i had arranged.
Short of hand delivering items yourself or taking time off work all week so you can intercept your parcels delivery... what else can we do?
Happens all the time. I've had shit dropped at home for work worth thousands and the ########s drop it at the front door and bolt.
I've complained, got nowhere fast so i don't use them for expensive freight anymore.
Australia Post can bite me. I sent a customer a couple of custom artworks I spent months on, then had customer in tears after the retards at auspost managed to put holes in both of them. Now going through a bullshit insurance claim and having to repaint the artworks.
I had an $800 inspection camera go missing delivered without a signature, driver said he received a sig, he couldnt describe the person, I received date and time from Aus post and presented them with security camera footage of my front door for the entire day showing the driver ring the door bell and leave with the parcel I eventually after 3 months of arguing and filing formal paperwork got a pay out

I can't really complain about the service I have received from AusPost delivering parcels etc from ebay and the like.
I live pretty much right next door to an AusPost outlet so i can walk up and get it if they leave the card in the letterbox.
maybe i'm in a good area for it? Sucks hearing all of your stories though
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast
Can you report them for forging a signature? Surely they are doing something illegal..?
As an expostal worker (i left becuase i couldnt handle the beauracracit bullshit) if an item doesnt ask for a id of the person who is beign delivered too, (drivers licnece) any one on the property even a burglar can sign for that item, it all comes down to the person sending the item, needs to state personal siganture and id required, another option wich can be a nuisance is a po box, wich cost money and time to collect.
DEAD ON ARRIVAL
its pretty good here. i either am home and get it myself or taken back to post office. if its a big heavy package i get a card in mail box so they dont have to lug it round which is fine by me
Imagine how they would pick their act up if they faced a class action from unhappy ripped off customers like the banks are facing?
I know its probably not in the same league as millions of dollars of bank fees, but one can wish.
Ive had one in my old area assume I wasnt home because my car wasnt in the driveway like it usually was during the day. My hubby had my car that day for work. She didnt even get out her car and drove off. It was a tracked item and she had put "attempted delivery noone at address". I was standing at my security door watching her and waiting for her to come up. Then she said cared, it wasnt and it took 2 further days til it got back tot he PO. It was an item that was sent to get to us by a specific date which of course it didnt. A few phone calls and complaints and she was replaced.
The next one wouldnt even get out the car, they would drive up in their 4wd ute up the footpath and drop a card in the letterbox and keep driving. The last one we had before we moved seemed to save them up. We'dd get nothing for a week or so and not see the delivery van in the area for days (you usually see them zipping around) even though we'd paid for things and bought them nearly everyday some a couple of suburbs away so shouldnt take 10 days from postmarked date to arrive. Then we would get piles of them at once all with week old or more post marks.
Where we are now the guy is fantastic. He will leave non signature small items in the corner if Im not home. Couldnt say a bad thing about him.
Some of them are just scrubbers who dont care. Its almost as if you live in a dodgy area, the contractors are dodgy too.
This is what happens when you use contractors who don't give two shits about the companies reputation. Not saying they are all bad though.
I can't complain to much about the guy in my area, hes pretty good. But I swear hes on steroids or something because if your not at the door within negative two seconds, he will card it, now I just yell out "I'm coming" when I hear the door-bell. But the package is always at the LPO before 4pm.

I'm currently have an issue as well with missing post, I thought I would call around to the local post office's around work to see if the item was been held there as an undeliverable.
Went on the aus post web site to look for the numbers and you can only call the main one. I thought okay, they must redirect you through. However this is not the case. I was told that you are now unable to talk to the staff from a post office. I said okay, can you check for me. I was told no, and they wouldn't give me a reason why not. I was told that I would have to drive around to the half a dozen in my area. I told the lady on the phone that, that is the most stupid thing i have ever herd. Now how ####ing stupid is that.
i think auspost dont give a shit cause they have the monopoly in this area, thats why i get stuff delivered to work so its not left in plain view
The Mad Dutchman
I've tried to complain numerous times mate, their complaints process (they don't really have one) is an absolute joke. Just have to accept that it is a poorly run company that is pretty much a monopoly.

Back when AusPost was staffed by Aussies, I never had a problem.
Since contractors have started to be used, always had issues. I live in a townhouse, so rather than driving down to our unit (an extra 200 yards), they just leave the "Missed you" slip in the letterbox out front.
The one time they did drive down, they tossed the parcle over our mini front courtyard. We were home at the time and heard the bang as it hit the ground. No doorbell or knock, was supposed to be signed for. Thank goodness it wasn't a fragile item.
Another time, $200 item was apparently 'signed' for on a date I was not home, and no one else was. Rang them up, asked for proof of delivery and signature. Signature that was shown to me wasn't even close to mine, contractor claimed that someone was home who opened the front door to sign. 2 mistakes, #1. No one was home. #2. We dont use our front door, we use the garage to come and go. AusPost denied any responsibility. Luckily the guy I bought it off believed my side and sent me a replacement, don't know how he went with the insurance claim against them.
I get everything delivered to my work address now. No problems since then, must just be my lovely geographical and demographic contractor area for AusPost.
