Howdy Looking at trying to build a lil 1/24 scale model or something along the lines, it will be my first and hopefully not my last if i can keep the patients with it
Wondering what people that have done them before would suggest to try for a first, I would like to do a holden or something australian if i could find one but i cant seem to on ebay or other sites, Maybe someone here could point me in the right direction?

unfortunately there's no Australian cars available in the plastic 1/24 kits (unless you can find a Pontiac/Commodore ?) usually they are Japanese, Euro or American kits so our cars aren't catered for. You can of course buy the ready built die cast models of Commodores etc, but not the kits.
if you are really keen, and do some searching you can find resin body shells of Commodores etc that are designed to fit the chassis of another 1/24 model with similar dimensions eg Skyline. But they usually aren't that great. Some of these ones look alright though Scale Automobilia Online Model Catalogue - Cars - Australian.
There was a company doing Aussie resin body's that fitted us mustang model kits, when I get home I'll see if I still have the link

I used to build some a couple years back it can be a very rewarding hobby when you finish one. For a first kit id suggest anything made by tamiya as they are generally the best quality fit which mean less headaches for you. I can put some photos up of mine if you wanna have a look.
i started on model cars then i got into building RC cars. i have a RC drift car. almost every component has been changed and upgraded. its exactly like building a model car but you get to enjoy the hours of fiddling and ####ing around with tiny little parts haha. then you can get all different shells. bodykits. everything. i love iti suggest you look into it

what sort of paint do you use when painting them?
wouldnt mind getting a kit or 2 of these and using the airbrush on them.
I started getting into building model cars but found that RC cars ate much more fun. The best tip I can give is always do your prep work and take your time if you want to achieve a decent result. My favorite part was prepping and painting te bodies. Check out the following website and read through the hints and tutorial section, it will give you some great advice.

For brushwork its usually better to use acrylic. When painting bodies I always used a pressure pack as I didn't have an airbrush. Tamiya are pretty big at most hobby stores and they have a fairly decent range of colours. If you lived in Canberra or surrounding areas I would probably sell you a massive range of coloured paints, unfinished and new models at a decent price. I have pretty much every Tamiya acrylic colour (apart from the army stuff) and have no use for them.
Thepartsbox.com is a great site for Aussie cars, very basic, but very detailed, airbrush is ideal, and they sell a shitload of aftermarket bits and pieces, a little pricey though. Hers one in the build. Highly modded.
