Heaps of new pictures and videos have been released about the new Toyota GT 86; Toyota GT-86 - All Car Wiki - Car Specification Wiki
It's shaping up to be an awesome car.
What do you guys think?
Personally, the car looks awesome, but frankly I'm a bit surprised at the low power output I was expecting the Subaru to have an official upper spec with about 200kw. But from what the insiders at Toyota have been saying the car is being designed to be modded. I guess they're setting up the basics and letting the individual owners determine what power the car should be putting out.
if it had 250kw i would be signing up for one but not enough grunt to keep me happy but do like the look of them
Providing there's enough space in the engine bay, they'd be ripe for an LS transplant. The head engineer at Toyota has said that he wants to sell the car completely stripped out as an option, so no bonnet or boot panels, no engine, no driveline, no interior. You choose what you want and then put whatever you want in it. I don't know whether it's going to happen, but it's a great idea. I'll try and find the link to when he was saying this,
Remember this car only weighs like 1.2 tonne so I imagine it would be fairly fast even with only 147fwkw
Pffft - looks ok but as said, performance is lacking. Just a fancy looking RWD Corolla IMO.
Now THIS on the other hand:
Shits all over the Toyota for both looks and performance. This 2012 Opel Astra looks like the car to buy if you're into fast smaller cars.
I just hope they bring them out here..
someone should give them a medal, at least its rear wheel drive..( i assume the subie version will be all wheel drive.)
i thought toyota forgot how to make RWD cars. its a step in the right direction
The Scion FR-S pics and specs have been officially released:

Spec wise it's the exact same as the JDM and EURO GT 86/86. Interior wise is a different story, it's a little more reserved and loses the sat nav. Less boy racer, but still somehow looks cheaper.
aaaaand it probably wont be relesed here, or it'll cost waaay to much.
looks like shit, the concept model looked alright, looks more like they stole the front end of a LFA.
Looks – Good
RWD – Excellent
Engine - FAIL
Doesn't look as good as the FT-86 did at the motor show.
It looks good but there's a good chance that it will just be an over priced toy.
Would be fantastic to see a release of some AFFORDABLE (by this i mean a pay off between power, looks & styling) sporty coupe released into the market.
That interior looks like a supercheap catalogue.![]()
i quite like it, will be interesting to see what people do with them, mods wise. and how interchangeable other toyota/subaru parts are.
"The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."
apparently wasting my time with 97 cubic inches
milk doesnt come in 1.6 litres
my geminis
just wish they hadnt put a boxer in it... would have loved a new 2jz turbo motor in it lol
ive been following this car for a lng time, i even went to the motor show just to see it and the hulme, the price will "start with a 3" so probly "39,990" i have also heard that australia might not be getting a turbo version ?
but this is yet to be confirmed. it will be an excellent car by any means and the motor is build strong to hold massive psi... my 200sx only came out with 145 flywheel kw or something and weighed 1200 kg,s spend less than 5 grand and it runs 12's this is what you must think about.
bootlegapparel is absolutely right with his last sentence.
I personally love it, people are saying its a let done with the power but its perfect for a N/A 2L... This car was meant to be a modern day 86 and seems like handling was a huge factor in this build (weight distribution, weight, low centre of gravity (hence the boxer) etc)
The best thing is the engine isn't an ordinary 2L N/A boxer... has direct injection, 12.5 compression ratio and apparently yamaha helped out a little on this engine so you know its going to be pretty good
In theory it should run 0-100 in the 6 second bracket, and quarter mile in 15's.... not stupidly quick but with max power at 7000, I think it would be a pretty good car to get on the track![]()
should be a fun car.
will be good to read more specs
would be in the mx-5 price range and if i had the money i would buy one of these because it would be a blast to drive
This thing is going to be something to consider for a fun weekender. Get away along the Great Ocean Road with the other half of for some fun at a track. While performance isn't off the charts, fun factor will still be VERY high!
As I'm unlikely to buy a new motorbike any time soon, as much as I want to, because the risk is too great - especially when starting a family. This will be a great alternative - and be more comfortable to enjoy with someone else... I think I'll be seriously considering one of these as my next toy.

And well worth a watch:
don't think this has been posted.
Stripped-down 86 and BRZ for car modifiers
Toyota and Subaru have unveiled stripped-down versions of their 86 and BRZ sportscars – blank canvases designed with car modifiers in mind.
Costing significantly less than the specced-up versions, these purist versions (known as the 86 RC and BRZ RA) will come with basic 16-inch steel wheels, unpainted front and rear bars, no foglights, no stereo, no air conditioning and no rear spoiler. It doesn’t even come with a gear knob.
The normal brakes are also gone in place of a basic package, and the car loses its limited slip diff in place of a cheaper mechanical unit.
Given all the things missing from the RC/RA, it unsurprisingly weighs 40kg less than the normal 86 and BRZ. And with so many goodies stripped off the car, the price has also been slashed. In Japan, the 86 RC will cost the equivalent of AUD$24,000 and the BRZ RA, AUD$24,850.
The idea is that many people will be buying their 86 or BRZ for the explicit purpose of completely modifying it – or stripping it down for race use. Toyota and Subaru have identified a market and thus, are providing the appropriate product.
But there’s a catch: it’s only for Japan at this stage. Toyota Australia spokesperson Mike Breen told TopGear that it wouldn’t be coming to Australia.
“We won’t be taking the bare bones model, no,” he said. “It’s a little bit too bare bones for our market. Ours will have a few more luxury features, but not too many.”
Japanese customers will be able to buy an RC/RA when they go on sale in March. The 86/BRZ will go on sale in Australia in June.
