220 wtf i paid 80 not long ago
We charge $165 for roadworthy checks. Used to be $88 before the new laws came in.
Serious? I paid $80 in april
I'm paying anywhere between $200-$300 depending on how much gets overlooked.
These new laws were meant to prevent the issuing of dodgy rwc's yet I can still get one the same as before. The only thing that has changed is the price!
Kind of defeated the purpose of it being introduced in the first place?
$300? Ever thought of just fixing the car and getting a proper roadworthy?
Only a matter of time before those dodgy testers get fished out and there licences cancelled IMO.
I don't understand why people want dodgy roadworthys.... If something was not safe on my car, I would like to know about it so I could fix it. People that get dodgy roadworthys wont know if the inner edge of the tyre is worn really badly or if the brakes are getting low or any bushes are worn.
I know I don't have to worry about that anyway because I service my cars and give them a full checkover every 5,000kms and if something is wrong, its fixed within a week (depending how long it takes to get the parts and how much they cost).
There is actually something I would like to tell people that I seen wrong with a customers car but there is no way in the world that they would believe me because I didn't take any photos so theres no way to prove it.
I totally agree about people getting dodgy roadwortys, i can't understand it either. I also can't understand why testers do dodgy roadworthys either, it's just not worth losing your licence to help some idiot you probably don't even know, it's just crazy.
Yeah thats completely true. Plus the owner of the car (or the person that bought it) could just go to vicroads and show them things that are wrong with the car, then the workshop that done the roadworthy has to fix the problems for free, or if there is major problems then they lose their licence.
I have, but I can't justify changing elements on the car to pass a legitimate roadworthy, to just reverse the elements after the roadworthy has been issued. It is far easier for me to just get things overlooked.
My tester is far from dodgy, there is just an element of trust and understanding between us that allows me to do this.
Do you honestly think something like 90mm ground clearance wet weight or a MAF removal is considered unsafe to the point that it would deem such a risk to myself or other road users? Sure to the letter of the law it might be deemed unroadworthy but at the end of the day I know this and even having to get a legitimate roadworthy would not change the way I modify my vehicle.
Having said all that, I'm sure my vehicle would still be safer than yours or superchargedvs6.
The only time I've got a dodgy roady was when I brought my brothers car and needed the rego swapped over so I could insure it and soforth. I needed a new tail light which I was searching wreckers for (time consuming) and my mechanic was flat out busy and took a while to book it in. He just wrote me out a dodgy on the spot so I could do the paperwork and brought the car in a few weeks down the track to get the work done when we both had time.
Getting a dodgy is more about getting around the inflexibility of the system which can result in your rego expiring if you dont get things done in time. But I agree if somethings worn or unsafe, dont be a tightarse just fix it
Is that right? And what qualifies you to make such an allegation? You have absolutely 0 idea about how safe or unsafe my cars are, same as i have no idea about how safe or unsafe your cars are (well, apart from you admitting that your car/s wont pass a 'legitimate' roadworthy). For the record, i never said your car was 'unsafe', i just merely pointed out that it might be cheaper and/or easier to get the car up to roadworthy standard and pass a legitimate roadworthy.
Also, any tester that does dodgy roadworthys is a dodgy tester IMO.
Just out of curiosity, what are the things on your vehicle/s that wouldn't pass roady?
Good luck trying to find something that's wrong or unroadworthy on my car. I have been pulled over a couple of times and the cops went over my car, they couldn't find anything wrong, so they let me go. I travel 300kms everyday for work so I always service and Checkover my car every 5000kms so I can make sure everything is good.
Also how would you know how safe our cars are? You don't even know us and your making judgements and assumptions.
I also want to add, you don't have to lower a car and have it almost touching the ground anyway (making it unroadworthy). My VS is the lowest legal height, looks awesome, and hasn't had any problems with the police. Anyone who just hands out roadworthys whether they know the person or not is dodgy, why risk losing their roadworthy licence.
