Default They knew how to build them in the old days...

How did they make such an epic car back then?, and yet most 4x4's now are made with far less capability than this

    The 1940-ish Volkswagen Kübelwagen.

Ground clearence 290 mm (That's bucketloads more than any factory 4x4 nowadays)
The use of portal gear hub reduction (portal gears! same as the unimogs have)
Independent suspension on all four wheels
    Self-locking differential
    Weight (empty) 725 kg
Fording depth (without wetting engine) 450 mm
    Main gas tank 30 liters
Normal fuel consumption 8L per 100 km

Tow hooks front and rear. Front bash plate, and an almost completely flat underbody. Air cooled engine highly tolerant of hot and cold climates.

According to wikipedia "The two-wheel-drive Kübelwagen surprised even those who had been a part of its development, as it handily out-performed the other vehicles in nearly every test. Most notably — thanks to its smooth, flat underbody — the Kübel would propel itself much like a motorised sled when its wheels were sinking into sand, snow or mud, allowing it to follow tracked vehicles with remarkable tenacity."

do you know passive aggressive smurf?

on topic ~ this vehicle was pretty cool its real genius here was the independent suspension on all four wheels... still my ALLIED NATIONS jeep would kick its ass.

Provided the f****ng leaf springs didnt shatter while launching the thing over a dune....

I'd still, cut the springs, put it on 20's, chuck a body kit on, and slam a Chev badge on. Like a boss.
