I work for a business (that will remain nameless) that has a small underground carpark.
almost 12 months ago a stolen car was dumped in the carpark, and partially stripped of its interior.
its actually a nice looking VY SS.
we reported the car and it was inspected by the police, who even dusted for fingerprints back then.
apparantly the owners of the car just never reported it stolen though as it was never picked up.
over time we have called the police several times but they will not remove the car as its privately owned and on private property. (even though we gave them permission to) one officer even suggested we tow it to the road and the council would remove it.
we have also called the council who wont work with us either.
what i dont understand is how the police were unable to track the original owner using the plates.
maybe they did but the owner didnt care and never contacted us about getting it.
police have warned us not to take the car to a wreckers as we are not the owners, yet offer no assistance in removing it.
does anyone have any ideas besides just dumping it on the road for the council......
and yes i have thought about pulling the donk to put in me EH.... but as the cops have told us, someone actually owns it.... they just wont tell us who.
the business in question is a large chain with a well respected name so everything needs to be done by the books to ensure it stays that way.
Delete your post, and torch the car - job done. Don't take anything off it though.
Tell them you think there is a bomb inside it.

post location and how to get access the car on jc
arrive at work on Monday find no more car.
seriously no idea mate
Phone the police, ask them to contact the owner and supply a pre-written invoice for storage of the vehicle. If nothing has been heard from said private owner after 3 months, notify them again. If there is no correspondance after said date then you are legally able to claim the vehicle, to cover the storage fee's of the past 12months. Not a bad way to score a nice SS.
We have done such a thing in the past when a gentlemane failed to pay for the tow & storage fees at our NRMA yard. We persued the matter legally and were awarded the vehicle and his belongings to cover any costs involved.
Wouldn't the car now be referred to/known as an abandoned vehicle.
i'm led to believe if you post a public notice in the newspaper, looking for the owner and the owner doesn't come forward or prove it's their car. after a certain time period you can then claim ownership of said car...
Would your Company not have a Law firm where you can seek legal advise?
I tend to lean towards what dzach and low06vz regarding attempts to contact the owner then if that fails you can claim ownership. I know if you take an item found to the Police station if no one claims it after a period of time you can claim ownership.
Location? then me and my big tow truck will sort the rest out haha![]()
our company as such would have a legal department, but the company i work for is only in management of the property, it is privately owned by a couple in the states who are not really concerned. so much so that i have been there for 3 years and that couple has never visited said business of theirs.
From a companies perspective it is not viewed as a priority as it doesn't effect business and the owners have not made a comment, and as said company is losing its contract when new owners take over, they wont push it.
I'm looking for opinions as I will be staying on in the property and working for the new owners, so when they ask me to fix the problem, I wanted to have my plans in place.
............. couple of seats and a centre console and it could make a nice company car i guess.
If it has nearly been 12 months then surely you can dispose it. I know if the cops had found my vy ss i would be going to get it in the next 20 minutes. so the owners cant be to worried. I'd personally strip a few parts and "relocate it" so it's someone else's problem
why are you listening to the police for? seriously if it was me and its been that long it would be in the garage all stripped then when the sun goes down go hire youself a trailer and tow to to ther feral suburbs then problem solved... just wear gloves while you doing all this so you dont show finger prints
+1 for stripping it, late at night
the car will just go "missing"
Starin at the world through my rearview
Go on baby scream to God, he can't hear you
I can feel your heart beatin fast cause it's time to die
Gettin high, watchin time fly
I need a oil filler neck off an LS1, will pay $5.
Just sayin'
Give you $200 for the heads? What wheels are on it?
Ill take the steering wheel, if it has no wear marks on it : )
You could always say " I don't know officer, it was there when I left on Friday night?"

Verify this with a solicitor/chamber magistrate at your local courthouse but im pretty sure you Send the owner via the police a bill for storage of the car, find out what the local self storage places charge, then declare the car unclaimed/abandoned goods I think you chave to post an add in a local paper, then sell the car at public auction to recover the "storage" costs that the owner owes. Ebay the car as VY commodore stolen & anbandoned car, keep the desciption as brief as possible and bid on it from your own ebay account etc, then pay yourself the auctioned result. All you will pay is ebay fees

If a vehicle is sitting in any certain place for a period of 3 months or more without contact from the owners to claim or take neccesary action to move the vehicle the said vehicle is then classed as an abandoned vehicle & is legally allowed to be removed by the owner of which the vehicle is abandoned
