wonder if they use a flux capacitor @ 1.21 gigawatts..
would be cool if it was like the 5th element style
I think they have some more proving to do, but its certainly been making news.
faster than light particles
Good point. On the other hand, there are trillions of planets, at least some of them could be around the same time we are. I agree its unlikely we will ever see a real alien, though, for any number of reasons.
I think you could assume there would be 'civilizations' in whatever form they take at many different stages of development. I think you could also assume that if we were ever to have any arrive on our doorstep, they are probably a bit further down the technology track than we are![]()
whats with Area 51 then? why all the secrets
maybe we have been visited from other life forms, governments hide alot of information
Conspiracy theories have been around since time began. Area 51 is probably where they are developing more evil methods of mass destruction than Saddam Hussein was supposed to have, who knows? I guess thats why its a secret...
I believe in aliens. I dont believe I will ever see one. I also believe they will have no interest in my anus or the inserting of any probes thereof if they should come here.
I also believe they may have been here before, judging by some of the old stuff thats been found in history, particular with the Mayans. And how the frig did they build the pyramids without machinery? Some of the rocks are like 50 tons.. how does a preindustrial society lift a 50 ton block of stone a couple hundred metres up the side of a pyramid? There may well be a perfectly reasonable explanation, who knows..
I just hope they are friendly and we can communicate if they arrive.
I reckon aliens have visited Earth, saw all the Political Correctness, than pissed off in case it was contagious. Just sayin.....

Or maybe they are secretly filming us and watching us on thier comedy channel.

Area 51 was made for weapon development. The stealth was made there and its a nuclear testing area. There is a show on austar about it atm. A few dudes that worked there are telling the storey about it. They said what they have told you in the show is only about 5% of the stuff thats went down there so they still are hiding alot.

When I was a kid I thought they were hiding aliens there (of course, I first heard of Area 51 when I saw ID4), but meh, I'd say its mostly for weapons development in addition to testing new military aircraft (both manned and unmanned)

how do we know there isnt some other "parallel" universes, whereby they are exactly like us. or opposites, or maybe even fluro in colour?
what if there are others out there. could we all be united or would our diferences be too different? (eg language barriers)
if there is something else out there it would be awesome.
will we ever see it? i doubt it
unless we somehow can harness the ability to ability to travel faster then the speed of light. (because our closest "relatives" are so far away)
even still. how do we know these others out there live in the same conditions as us?
we always look for planets "similar" to earth. being in the "liveable zone"
what if these others live on other sources. like light for example. and dont need "food" to service like we do
to be honest, until there is contact with the others you may aswell make it into a great story.
that way in my opinion it is interesting. and it means that grey matter is used to create vivid imaginations.
obviously i like to imagine things, and create stories. =P
Pine gap is a radar installation, which protestors have successfully got into and chained themselves onto. Nothing more, no big deal. Area 51 is a top secret developmental area, into which even flies and mosquitoes need appropriate ID to get even close to. Anything that was on Austar was there with permission, you wouldnt have seen anything secret of course.
Regarding Drawnnites question about even being able to communicate.. brings to mind a scene in 'No ordinary family'. The genius brother was laughing at the mind reading sister, because she tried to read the family dogs mind. As he said.. you assumed it thought in English??
I think Spock had it right in the old song Startrekkin.. 'its life Jim but not as we know it' is more likely.
Pretty arrogant of us to assume that an alien even needs arms and legs, let alone a pair of each like us, but thats how they are portrayed in most sci-fi.. humanoid. Even the nasty ones usually have 2 arms, 2 legs and a head.. just bigger teeth, bad breath and snakes for hair or something like that.
Then again.. have you ever tried to communicate with a cockroach? Maybe they wont think we are worth talking to.. no more important than cockroaches. They notice us just fine, but they see no need to attempt to communicate. Like we do with cockroaches.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
Albert Einstein
Have none of you fools every seen the documentary E.T.?
On a more serious note, everybody says that it would be ignorant to say that there is no other intelligent life forms out there but I choose to wait for the proof as with everything in life there has to be a first and why couldn't it be us?

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
Hey dont get me wrong, I agree with you. Its possible we are the first. We are a relatively young solar system though, and in the same way as its mathematically virtually impossible for us to be the only ones, its also mathematically pretty unlikely that we are the first.
Possible, absolutely. Likely.. nah. As you said though, proof would be required either way. Thats the cool thing about this debate, you cant get anyone jumping in and flaming people. Theres no particular proof to support either side, apart from mathematical probabilities.
Actually there is a third factor, one that could cause an argument. Plenty of people in this world support a religious view of the universe, which invariably places us as the centrepiece and the rest of the universe as simple decoration, regardless of which religion they subscribe to.
Hopefully this thread doesnt go in that direction
I find the faster than light particles story particular interesting. If it turns out to be proven, then Einstein was wrong, and the physics of the universe as we have accepted them are wrong. Ok they are only the tiniest little zits in existence, but if they can exceed light speed then it leaves hope for us to one day do the same.
Faster than light travel, or at the very least faster than light communication, is the only thing that will ever allow us to visit another star. Any star, let alone one with life.
I've always found the sci-fi solutions to the limits of physics neat and believable too. Things like hyperspace, warps and wormholes.
Interesting that many things first seen in sci-fi have come to reality in time. Communicators.. sat-phones? Shuttle craft, space stations. Voice recognition and AI computers. Space flight itself.
Has anyone wondered what could happen if your body and 'memory files' could be digitally copied? You could be 'transported' to another place.. or even cloned, so you could stay at home at the same time... These things although not possible now, are certainly not completely discountable in the future.
More changes have occured in the last 100 years than the rest of history combined. Probably 90% of that has happened in the last 50 years. Probably 80% of that has happened in the last 25 years.. see a pattern?
The world as we know it compared to the world in 100 years time will not be recognizable. I wish I was going to be here to see it, because by that time, hey maybe we WILL have our annual holidays on some decadent planet on the other side of the galaxy, hosted by aliens with 3 boobs.
Why do they call the area between a womans hips and her chest a waist?
You could easily fit another couple pairs of boobs in there...

ok so talking about space and other life forms etc.
i have one question.
so apparently the universe stated with the 2 atoms going
however my question is how did these atoms get there?
and if you say religious ideas (which i will not hold against anyone)
then how did they get there?
but yeah dakster. it has increased in rapid amounts.
i just wonder when they will find the maximum possibilities.
in for example mobile phones. what will be the maximum capacity and speeds they could achieve.
but i guess we will have to wait to find out.
I've always believed that there is other life out there somewhere but the chances of is finding it (or other way around) and even contacting it is virtually impossible in my lifetime.
Mobile phones wont last long. Not in their current form. The next step is embedded communication - something thats in you, not in your pocket.
Given there are 200-400 billion stars in our galaxy, and some 500 billion galaxies in the observable universe, and too many planets to list.
To quote Arthur C. Clarke: there are either two possibilities - we're alone in the universe, or the the universe is full of life. In either case the idea is quite staggering.
Basically that sums it up pretty well, though since he made that quote, we've discovered a whole lot more about the area around our own solar system. If anyone's interested in exo-planet information look up the telescope Kepler. It's found some very interesting planets, including 2 recent ones comparable to Earth, we couldn't even see those 1 year ago because the scopes weren't big enough. I mean Hubble launched only 20 years ago, I can't even imagine what we'll discover in another 20, 50 or even 100 years!
Space is so cool.

I'll be he comes to get you, some shopping trolley kind of thing, that gets you where your going nice and slow... Well off you go that's fine, the pleasure's all mine.
When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
im interested in what wel find in the future to, maybe theres something on another planet that uses light and some other forms of energy to live, or as DAKSTER said were searching for life that is somewhat like us so maybe thats why we find nothing, those planets may be similar to ours, but i wonder what nasty creatures are out there, be quite ironic to actually find a way to get that far across space to get there and get eaten LOL
if u think about it everything is made to keep us on earth, gravity first of all, oxygen, water, and when we take those things with us our bodies still break down without gravity, so if we were to take many lifetimes suplly with us into space, start a generation on the way to the other planet seeing itd take many lifetimes to reach it, by the time the peoples that first left earth have offspring, their bones will be weaker then paper, and the offspring themselves wont survive on the new planet. were stuck here its unrealistic to think we can move planets.
so for aliens to come to this planet they must be very advanced to survive it, thats why i think they have alot of technology. but apart from them there might be many other types of simple creatures out there that our imagination is to bound to our own planet and physics to even start to think of what possibilities there are.
