Hi All new to the threads here. I bought a 2005 Clubby via the internet for a great price, but part of the deal was it had books. This was shipped from it's prior home in Brisbane to me in Darwin.I'm sure you know where this is going....the car arrives with no books. After several emails which the seller says the books were in the car, and Toll the shipper claims they would be on the inspection sheet if they came with the car I still have no books. The seller is avoiding the subject that I feel the car is worth far less without a service history supplied.
What would you do?
Thank you in advance.
Never buy a car sight unseen! I've heard nothing but trouble stories with them, no matter how good the deal maybe.
The only thing I can think of is ask him which HSV dealer he had serviced at, and call said dealer. Otherwise, just get it checked by a mechanic and maybe do a AANT Vehicle Inspection, so at least you know what you've got.
I forgot to say I work for a HSV dealer so the car is good except some minor gremlins(door actuator, radio not hooked up...), but it's the principle of not getting what's promised. Anyone have an idea what my legal rights are if any being an interstate transfer?
As said, buy a car without seeing it in person (and the books in this case) and its more fool you I think. Dont think there is much you can do. If you work for a HSV dealer, and it was serviced at a HSV dealer, it should be fully recorded in your network of service history shouldnt it? (Thats how it work at the dealership i work at anyway). Or if it was serviced at a non-hsv dealer, as said ring them up. They should be able to print and fax/email the history of the services to you.
Thanks for the replies. There is incomplete service history via HSV, and nothing but minor warranty stuff or I wouldnt have considered it in the first place.
The seller is a licensed dealer and I have documented emails from him stating the car came with books. He's stating the books were stolen in transport. And no the car isnt red but Phantom Black.
the car is worth less without book. it's not your problem if they were stolen (obviously that's bullshit anyway). if you wanted to take it further, you could complain to Qld Fair Trading (or whatever they're called), but since you're in Darwin, it's gonna be hard to get that ball rolling and over such a small matter. your best bet, if the dealer is affiliated (say, with GMH), would be to complain to that body about how their affiliated dealer is behaving like a shark.
Just a little add on I didnt buy the car sight unseen, I have a friend in Brisbane who looked at the car before I made my decision, so I totally agree with the replies never buy a car sight unseen. At the dealership I work at we get all kinds of internet enquiries on our used cars and they are all sight unseen except the photos posted.
I spoke to the guy yesterday and he still is awaiting a reply from Toll. I told the guy regardless of what I paid I bought it with the understanding the books were with the car. What figure would you say the car is worth less with no books?
Don't be surprised if the books turn up on Ebay!
The last car yard i dealt with kept all the books away from the cars.
When i asked why.... he said that they were always being stolen!
