Jeremy Clarkson accused of racism AGAIN after Top Gear Christmas Special goes to India | Mail Online
When will people realise that complaining about Clarkson does absolutely nothing but spur him on even more? Either way - personally I say good on him...the one thing that always amuses (and shits me) about the Indians is that they're always the first to pull the racism card, yet they have absoutely NO problem whatsoever with discriminating against others. Can't wait to watch this.Outspoken TV personality Jeremy Clarkson has once again been accused of racism after mocking Indian culture in a Top Gear Christmas Special.
Some viewers were furious after Clarkson staged a series of Carry On style digs at the country's clothing, trains, toilets, food and history.
At one point, the controversial presenter ridiculed the unhygienic conditions and lack of sanitation among the poor by driving around the slums in a Jaguar fitted with a toilet.
Showing off the car's convenience, he boasted: 'This is perfect for India because everyone who comes here gets the trots.'
A spokesman for the BBC said they have been 23 complaints about content 'offensive to India' in the programme, which was broadcast on Wednesday evening.
She added: 'If viewers or religious groups want to complain, they can complain to the BBC. We won't be responding through the media.'
Clarkson's latest controversy comes hot on the heels of him claiming that strikers should be shot in front of their families during an interview on The One Show.
The comments caused a huge row with the outspoken presenter finally issuing a qualified apology.
After Top Gear aired at 8pm on Wednesday, a number of viewers took straight to social networks and internet message boards to voice their objections about the show, in which the team set out to boost British trade links with the subcontinent.
On Twitter, viewers branded Clarkson a 'Nazi' and dismissed the programme as 'casual racism'.
Twitter user Joseph Rivera wrote: 'Top Gear officially sucks. What a bunch of racist b******s.'
And Owen Hathway tweeted: 'Whats wrong with the BBC that they think casual racist stereotyping is acceptable on top gear?'
In one scene on the programme, Jeremy Clarkson was seen stripping off his trousers in front of two Indian dignitaries to show them how to use a trouser press.
In another shocking set-piece, the Top Gear team put banners promoting British industry on trains. One read, 'British IT is good for your company', and another, 'Eat English muffins'.
But the messages turned obscene when the carriages of the trains split.
Adding insult to injury, the latest programme was shown just two days after the murder of Indian student Anuj Bidve in Salford on Boxing Day.
Raj Dhutta, of the Manchester Indian Association, told the Star that the timing of the show was 'tasteless' so soon after Mr Bidve's killing, which police are treating as a hate crime.
'The show itself was also tasteless,' he added.
It is not the first time this year that Top Gear has been embroiled in a racism row. Earlier this year co-presenter Richard Hammond made an insulting parody of Mexicans to describe a Mexican sports car.
Hammond suggested the vehicle reflected the national characteristics of its country of origin.
To wit, ‘a lazy, feckless, flatulent oaf with a moustache, leaning against a fence asleep, looking at a cactus, with a blanket with a hole in the middle as a coat’.
He also described Mexican food as ‘refried sick’. Co-presenter James May ventured it was ‘like sick with cheese on it’.
Clarkson predicted they would not get any complaints, suggesting that the Mexican ambassador would be holding a remote-control and snoring in front of the TV.
But the Mexican ambassador, Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza, was furious. He described the comments as 'offensive, xenophobic and humiliating' and the BBC was forced to deliver a personal apology relating to him.
However, the corporation nevertheless refused to acknowledge the wider offence caused, despite a boycott of the BBC by Mexican radio and calls for an internal investigation.
In a statement it said: 'The show has explained they were making comic use of a stereotype'
Eventually the BBC’s editorial complaints unit upheld criticisms of the show and ruled that it reinforced stereotypes.
And it is not just on Top Gear that Clarkson has caused offence with his remarks
Ofcom, the broadcasting watchdog, launched an investigation earlier this month after he said striking public sector workers 'should be shot' while their families watched.
The comments - made during The One Show on November 30 - led to more than 21,000 complaints to the BBC and almost 800 to Ofcom itself.
Speaking about the strikers, he said: 'I’d have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families.
'I mean, how dare they go on strike when they’ve got these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?'![]()

If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Meanwhile at 350 million people watching the show ever week...
If people don't like it, there's that mysterious device with buttons, it can make him go away. Seriously, I love Clarkson, and his tongue in cheek humour - which many people seem to lack and understanding of.

That's what I was thinking. I see commentaries on the unhygienic state of India in general (which it most certainly is), cheeky signs (like their old 'Peniston Oils' door brandings) which have no racial connotations, and people bitching because they showed a 'tasteless' show 2 days after an Indian student was killed... What's that got to do with.. ANYTHING?
Ordinarily I try not to be racist, but #### me, do-gooders just make it SO MUCH EASIER.
If they put as much effort into hygiene as they did complaining it might actually be a place Id want to go visit.
Silver Certified.
If they had running water and sewer systems hygiene would be easier to manage.
I have no problem with Clarksons humour. People need to develop thicker skins.. how many times has he called himself a fat old man.. perhaps he needs to sue himself and beat them all to it? Irish jokes are around the world, the Irish dont seem to mind. They have a sense of humour.
Even the Irish have Irish jokes.. but they are about Mick from county Kerry.. they are even more specific. Every country, region, race and religion have jokes about others or even members of their own... even the Indians. Big deal, they need to lighten up.
they had a massive 25 complaints, out of how many people that watch it and will see the funny side, or understand its just clarkson being himself
jeremy Clarkson has and allways will be a wanker.
"90% of foreign tourists come from abroad." Only fools and horses
im indian myself but born here in aus, i found it hilarious what he said, and all of it is true
any one remember the crack he made about the burqa lady wearing a red g string, haha what a legend
Who cares if he earns more money. That doesnt justify a point either way.
Its Clarkson being Clarkson...and who can honestly say he wasnt 100% right?
Boohoo, get over it ya bunch of sooks.
Whatever happened to a sense of humour?
And yet it's still the most watched program on TV on this planet. Clakson is Clarkson and he will always be like that even if you think it's racist or not. Get over it it's a TV show after all.
Far out, even the guys that make South Park don't get in this much strife, and that's a LOT worse than Top Gear
We live in a society where pizza gets to your house before the police.
If anyone remembers 'It aint 'alf hot mum' .. also a BBC program.. it was completely based on a stereotype of Indians at the time. It was incredibly successful and no-one whined about racism. Made Clarkson look as politically correct as the Queen, it was way over the top. What a difference 30 years can make.
^^^Your wrong if any on of them left i would stop watching the show. It's the combo of the three Tv presenters that makes the show great.I rate James May & richard hammond higher than Clarkson,Mays and Hammonds other shows are great. As for Clarkson's other shows, books and interviews he is just a stuck up wanker from the South of England that hates everyone from the North.

Stuff like this makes me respect Clarkson even more.
He does this stuff because he can and he does it to show he won't be muzzled by the PC rubbish.
The received 23 complaints out of how many million viewers? Prime example of PC over reactions.
I also suspect that of those 23 complaints maybe half would have been people of Indian heritage who ACTUALLY took offence. The other half would be bored, white idiots being offended on behalf of other people.
Although i don't agree with the current furore... i still think Clarkson is an arrogant @$$h0le.... i don't get even mildly amused at his so called humour. He is the reason why i avoid the show. I don't give a flying toss how much he earns... i make 130k and i am happy with that!!
