Ok thanks mateBut yeah as I said, the first year when I started doing all that driving I used to get tired easily and it seemed like it would take forever to get home, but now i'm used to it and haven't felt tired for a while now and the distance doesn't seem so far anymore. Plus I do stop sometimes, even just to get fuel.
I do personally think that 110m/h isn't fast enough on the western highway, couldn't imagine going 100 km/h Melbourne to Ballarat everyday.
am i silly or am i not getting the decimal in Fatalities.. ppl r a whole unit :P
lowering wont do nothing... raising will do nothing.. is all BS... ppl always take shortcuts and take "Risks" its all part of impatient road users...
i can afford a newer car like stated above as well.. do i need one? Nope.. rather put a deposit on my house
I would like to see speed limits in residential areas reduced to 40, and limits on highways increased to say 120/130.
my street for example has a huge 50 sign at the beginning of it, but it will be a cold day in hell before i ever do 50 in a street like that!
I think the poor mentality of Australian drivers is the way it is because we don't have roads like the Autobahn. Just have a look at drivers sitting in the far right lane doing 90km/h thinking they're doing the right thing. I think driver education needs a serious looking at
But this clown wanting to reduce speed limits doesn't help the poor driver mentality. Sure some speed limits should be reduced, but It wouldn't hurt to raise a few either. Advocating a blanker state wide 10km/h reduction rather than assessing case by case is just stupid
my head would ####ing explode if i was only doing 80 from Geelong to Melbourne.
i travel from up north all the way below the south east suburbs daily for work.
80 on the monash is a joke. just because of no emergency lane *rage*
same with the calder.... 80 because of no emergency lane...
no one uses the left lane these days so lets just pull it out anyway =P
todays herald sun page 2:
experts (again... *sigh*) want all shopping areas and cbds of citys (including say bendio and geelong size) dropped to 40kph.
one president of the pedestrian society group thing wants 30kph!
during the day you can barely get through them any faster then 20km/h anyway!
the main business street where i live is 40kph anyway. and the only time i get to do that is before 8am. if im lucky... =P
if your dumb enough to cross the road where you shouldnt and you get hit its your own fault.
fine the moron who is in hospital for broken spines/necks etc for jaywalking!
as he/she was in the wrong. not the person driving at/below the limit and on the roadway.
even when i cross the road at the designated pedestrian crossings i double check.
the amount of cars that do go through are nuts.
but do i worry? no... thats why i double check....
to take care of my own safety... which i doubt people do anymore
What a Joke. They need to increase by 10 kmh
Mathematically there is about a x^3.5 (i.e. between third and fourth power) between speed and crash risk. So yes slowing people down should save lives - however, it will come at the cost of increased travel times for goods and services.
The best road system is one that has lowest overall operating cost - a study done by MUARC in 2002ish found out that the most efficient freeway speeds were 120 for cars, 100 for trucks; on rural highways 100ish for both vehicle types; and on substandard rural roads to be 80-90. However this study was done in 2002 when fuel was 85 cents a litre; operating costs are a part of the model, so these would change.
Was listening to this talk on the radio this morning. Cut the cbd speeds to 30kmph save pedestrians. What we need is pedestrian education not lower speed limits. For fat to long i've watched people ignore traffic and walk onto roads in harms way. Last month i watched an elderly man cross a very dangerous road less than 20 meters from traffic lights. He was slow and clearly hampered yet he went on. Another time was doing 10kmph in a carpark one guy walks past a car and looks at me and proceeds to walk right infront of teh car. It's perfect weather for visibility the cars silver and you were 10 meters away. So sorry let me stop and let you walk on. People are ignorant when walking. Gone are the days of look right look left, when the road is clear of traffic yada yada its their road they walk where they want to and probably drive that way.

if someone is dumb enoough to run out on the road infront of you like a kangaroo does. then simply its natural selection at work =P
think of the food chain. the human eats the shark. the shark eats the fish. the fish eat the insects.
do you think the shark is going to suddenly stop to let the fish cross the coral?
i doubt it =P
Talking about stupid pedestrians. I was passing fountain gate to get onto the hallam bypass (monash freeway) and this stupid bitch with her hair all covered up was trying to cross after the round about, where there was no footpath. She almost got hit getting into the middle median strip (island) and kept going. Worst thing about it all was the fact she was pushing a pram!! The majority of pedestrians that get hit deserve it.

Exactly right. At-least with kangaroos they get scared and disorientated, We're our own worst enemies. You sit back on the news and hear someone was hit by a car, then more than not they mention a busy road. Our 40kmph limit around schools works stuff 30kmph. What they should enforce is a points system knocking down stupid people who try run walk or snail across roads and don't care for oncoming traffic. This will keep them off the road and on crossings.
And we eat sharks.

'Experts' are just middle managers jusitifying their existence on the tax-payers payroll!
Get used to walking, cos all the various departments have sworn to get the road toll to zero,
and the only way to achieve that is to ban all motor vehicles on all roads.
F-----g numpties wasting my tax dollars in the pursuit of impossible goals......mumble, whinge, moan, grrrrr
