Does anyone have a roadworthy checklist?
I want to keep my car in such a way that no cop can defect it.. I want to get to the point where I could (but never would) greet the cops with "What's up pigs, wanna look under my bonnet? Have fun searching"..
I've thought a bit about things that cops can defect a stock car for..
Tyre Tread (1.5 mm IIRC)
Windscreen washer fluid
Hand brake clicks (I'm not sure how many clicks are required)
Is there anything else an over eager cop could find?
If they REALLY want to get you (and by the way you plan to greet them they prolly will) they will just lie about it. They will just write down that you had no window washer fluid or that your brake lights were out etc etc. Mates been done for his car being too low despite the fact it was standard height, but they couldn't find anything else so they wrote that down.
yeah i wouldn't mind being able to say that just coz i got pulled over because im in a nice car is any 1 able to get this list
lol bet you might have a few ways ay rat lol
a rw list isnt going to tell you what you can and cant get defected for. for example when you get the roadworthy done on your car they say nothing about the likes of blue light screen washers and stuff like that. as long as the washer works you get a rwc no worries, however get caught with them and your defected.
i think you need a list of all the possible defects. huge and hard to find i dare say.
handbrake clicks can vary, the lowest i have heard is 6 clicks so keep around there and youll be right. they can also ping for the seat being back too far or reclined too far it really goes on and on....
www.vicroads.vic.gov.au
search it there ... there is the actual LAW on roadworthy vehicles on that site.. and the EXACT guideline ALL mechanics "must" use when assessing a vehicles roadworthineses. so you can follow it yourself and ensure your own vehicles condition. (its got shit like distance a taillight globe must be visible frmo, the percentage performance of a vehicles handbrak, the specified setting of a windscreens light transmission factor shoudl be ... all the pissy little nitty gritty stuff is there.
but do yourself a favour, make a friend of a mechanic wih a testers license like i did ... $75 gets a me roadworthy on any car i need no matter what may be wrong with it ... defections are no longer a hassle - and now i can put any car i want on the raod ... even a FORD lmao
And if they get caught doing it they lose their licence.Originally Posted by s0sage

But on topic.. I found something on it. It's not a checklist. It's open to interpretation. Like with washer fluid..
It says washer jets must be correctly aimed, nd basically that it "must work effectively"..
Is there not something for specific then that which mechanics have?
here's the victorian link http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf...e/VSI%2026.pdf
Does any one have the link for queensland safety certs

Roadworthy Checklist
thanks greengopher, i was real confused but i was sure i had replied to his question. n
nahh i posted it in the pub first and realised that it may be more appropriate in General..
But I couldn't delete the post..
ok no probs![]()
it was just that there was one guy last night who posted the same question in at least 3 different sections.
it gets a bit annoying when the same question pops up![]()
and it can get you banned......(because its annoying....)
s0sage for once mate there is no way ill agree with what you and your mate are doing. roadworthy is for a reason. passing as a favour is looking to make a mess of something or someone.
thats fine mate .. i respect your opinion, but dont get me wrong .. just because i CAN doesnt mean i DO, and theres no way in hell i'd ever put a car on the road with bald tyres, craked glass, rusted out panels, shredded interior and falling to pieces overall... thats just insane.
i use my privelage with a few mechanic places i konw to remove DEFECTIONS on my vehicles (too low, too loud, too fast, mini-spool diffs, cracked headlights that sort of things) NOT just to buy $200 bombs and sell them for $1000 with reg and rwc.
as for my current ford i own.. i will challenge ANYBODY to find a single fault with it that would fail a roadworthy. i paid a pittance for it, but i drove the hardest of bargains, he wanted over $1700 for it when i found it, and previos ads to that he wanted over $2000. its the tidiest unit and is legitimatley rwc
i respect i have the privelage of getting rwcs only when i NEED them for myself. i dont abuse it. and i wouldnt abuse my mates in copping them a fine and revoking of their testers license (by the way its a $10,000 fine)
beleive it or not, too low, mini spools and cracked headlights are in the same basket as bald tyres and shitty seats. its safety. it shouldnt be done at all. its certainly not up to you or anyone else to decide what parts of roadworthy can be 'overlooked' and what parts are 'important'.
its all done for a reason.
im going with s0sage here i dont see why to low or tow loud can make your car dangerous ?
i can under stand rust and brakes and things but if its been lowered professionaly and has had a muffler put on perfessionaly it should be fine..................
yeah its because of a dodgy roadworthy that i had to get $300 worth of stuff repaired to my car after i bought it.Originally Posted by minux

Too loud is not considered dangerous, but it does cause noise pollution hence it being frowned upon. Too low however can be dangerous as if your car is less than 100mm off the ground, you risk bottoming out in the case of a tyre blowout. That's the main reason for it being illegal...Originally Posted by gtr34_crazy
Well, too loud is because we all have to keep noise levels down, whether it be at home or on the road. This is more common courtesy then anything I feel. Keeps the general public happy because some guy isn't driving past at 4am in the morning making your windows rattle.
As for being too low, as long as you maintain a minimum ground clearance its fine. Otherwise your running into troubles with everything else. Bottoming out, having to take things at angles, not being able to drive normally. Running the risk of undercarriage damage etc.
And Sosage.. I bet I could find something to fault the car - Nearly positive
Like what kind of things.. Let's just say my stock Commodore has just been freshly serviced..Originally Posted by bextor84

I know it depends on the car. But is it possible for you to find anything wrong with a well taken care of, reasonably late model car?
And is it possible for a cop (being legal)?
As with a car being too loud - whether it be engine noise (exhaust/extractors/whatever) or stereo (decibel level) - it IS dangerous, simply because if you're driving around with a kickass drone on your exhaust, or a "pumping" stereo you won't be able to hear emergency vehicle right up your ass. I admit to it myself, I sometimes can't physically hear them, but there hasn't been a time when I didn't get out the way of a code three alarm, cause I can see them.
as with "is it possible for a cop car to be illegal" - if you're referring to unroadworthyness, yes. Someone I know got pulled over for driving his "runaround car" it was only just unroadworthy - looked like shiiit. The copper pulled over the guy, checked the car, and told the guy he's going home with a defective notice. The guy who was being real nice to the copper asked why he had such and such wrong with the police squad car. Literally told the copper that his vehicle was unroadworthy - the guy was a tested for vicroads and noticed something was unalligned making it a "major" defect.
get a life goghper or a girl all you do is complain. do you own a car to coplain about? or are you just here to make mindless complaints to others......your a prime example of some 1 who need to get a life.....Originally Posted by greengopher
