I think rudeness comes in all ages, but I agree there seems to be a point at which many of the elderly discard manners as no longer necessary. My own mother is a perfect case in point, she lost all manners on her 70th birthday for some reason, it was like someone flicked a switch. Not so far from 'elderly' myself, I certainly hope I dont have a similar switch.
The young arent rude, they are self absorbed. They simply dont notice or care about other people. They dont mean to be rude to you, they are just so tied up with 'ME' that they havent noticed you.
I used to drive public metro buses until quite recently. Why did I stop?
There were many reasons that temporary unemployment was preferrable to such a job how ever, dumb, rude and willfully ignorant MoFos was pretty high on the list.
But, I never missed an opportunity to tell dicks 'how-it-was' shall we say. Didn't matter your age, class or race, if you treated me like crap when I didn't deserve it, you got SERVED!
I'm only 38 and I miss the good old days when folk tended to be polite and considerate FIRST, not after they were threatened with death....![]()

-Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short Phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

I would like to say I would handle a situation like that in a similar manner but fact is I wouldn't have said anything, too many nutjobs around these days and I am usually out and about with a baby on my hip and kids in tow so I just keep my cool maybe roll my eyes and think nasty thoughts about them. The way some people rage I would not put my kids at risk of a nasty confrontation. If hubby was around it would be a different story, he is very blunt and I could see a scenario like that ending with words like retards and terrorists being thrown around.
I work at a shop that recently got rid of plastic bags.
Had a customer come in the second day we had stopped using them and abused the hell out of me,
trying to make it sound like it was my fault we didn't have bags so she could carry her 3 items.
I just smiled and continued serving her. She works in the local mitre 10 store, was even wearin her work shirt.
Now you would think as she works in retail, she would understand how the cashier has no say in store policy.
I got my revenge when I went shopping in mitre 10 the next day.
Went up to the counter and asked the same woman for corn seeds. I could see quiet obviously they had sold out.
I then proceeded to get up her about how pathetic it was that they hadn't re stocked the shelf and made quiet a scene.
I then smiled at her and explained that I understood how she felt and reminded her of the carry on she had the day before.
She apollogised and has been one of the nicest customers i serve ever since.
