I took my car (2007 AH Astra) in for a service today. While they had it I got a call saying that one of the rear engine mounts has actually snapped. When questioned I was told its just normal wear and tear.
This car is just coming up to 5 years old. While it has been driven on some rough roads, (the joys of living in the Bundaberg region!) its always been driven with care...even if its an Astra, my car is my pride and joy and I baby it. Unless the engine mounts are some $0.02 piece of shit from China I find it very hard to believe that one can just snap after 58,000km. Have you heard of this happening so soon...or are they taking me for a ride? Either way I am going to insist on seeing the original engine mount when I pick the car up tomorrow.

just wait until you have to have to replace the rotors brake pads and anything electrical, that's when the wallet is lighter

Wait till you do the timing belt lol.
My mounts lasted more than 12 years and 400,000km on my VT... then one just snapped clean lol.
I'm also gonna jump on the band wagon, it's an Astra. The whole thing has the structural integrity of a chocolate easter egg.

I'll be he comes to get you, some shopping trolley kind of thing, that gets you where your going nice and slow... Well off you go that's fine, the pleasure's all mine.
When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
I don't disagree about Astra build quality, but the early VE models are notorious for snapping engine mounts apparently.
I think on the whole it's just the quality assurance, wherever that responsibility may rest. Working against us is the annoying attitude of Holden lately where they build to ensure it lasts the warranty period, outside of that, it's just more profit for them and less care.
I think you're onto something there Banicks...and I don't think its just Holden, but GM in general (the Astra, like the old Barina, Vectra, Tigra and Combo was actually sourced from Opel) really. While it was in I also got them to look at the RHF door seal, as it was coming loose. Turns out it was actually never installed properly in the first place.
Anyway I picked up the car today and asked for the old engine mount so I could see it for myself...anyway yeah - its completely snapped clean. I had a prang about 18 months ago (old fart in a Hilux ran up the side of me), maybe it happened then and nobody noticed up until now.

Some were in warranty and some were not. It never seemed to be age or wear dependant it just happened when it happened.

Astra engine mounts are s**t they dont last
Interesting - apparently the new engine mount is actually a revised design...I wonder if it will be better. When I picked up the old engine mount I was actually surprised as to just how light it is. It weighs SFA. Given that its purpose is to hold an engine block in place which ways, lets say - 500kg...I would have expected that it would be a lot heavier.
