Hi i have recently purchased a Holden Colorado which i have not taken delivery of yet.
The dealer has told me thats its a 2012 model (which is what i have paid for!!), but the build date is july 2011 and the compliance plate is 14th december 2011.
So would it be a 2011 model and am i being told a load of BS??
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks Shell.
Take it back or ask for a discount...
Mine was made in 2006 and complianced in 2007 - thus its a 2007 so yours would be a 2011 model. I'd be going back asking what the hell is going on.
Cars go by a couple of different years, there is the build date, the compliance date and MY. A car built in 2011 can still be an MY12 because it is the model built for 2012, but usually they are built towards the end of the year and are a new model.
In your case, I would say that the dealer is saying that the car you are getting is the same as the 2012 but it is still a 2011 build. If he is saying your specific car is a 2012 then he is lying. But if he is saying it is a 2012 MODEL, then it is all in the wording he is using as the Colorado is still probably unchanged from 2011 to 2012.
What was on the contract that you signed? I see where you are coming from but dealer may have referred it as a 2012 model year - inaccurately. GM model year begins in september previous year, so your colorado is in fact 2011 MY. Was it 2012 plated or 2011 plated, what were his exact words? Have a polite discussion with dealer about this. If you still think they are at fault bring it up with your state's fair trading body.
If its still brand new with the same specs as the previous 'year' I wouldn't give a shit.
The dealer said when i purchased the car that it was a 2012 compliance plated vehicle.
The contract only metioned the colour and trim of the car as they said that there were no 2011 or 2012 Colorados in stock and that they could only get the 2012 compliance plated model which had to be ordered in.
Im paying a higher price for the 2012 as they stated there were no 2011 models in stock so i give a shit!! If they were the same price it wouldnt bother me.

yep would come down to resale.
IF there is a 2012 one for sale right above his 2011 one which may only be 2 weeks older or so, people will still perfer the 2012 model
I'd say the Dec 2011 build date will make it a 2012 model car. (Sep year change over)

But it's a July 2011 build with a December 2011 compliance, so it makes it a 2011 car.

To the OP, you don't need to accept the car they have ordered for you though as they told you it was a 2012. The car they have there for you is a 2011.

I would not want the car either!!
But can I add that the compliance date is the date the car was concidered "finished" for sale. So the dealers are not "fibbing" as such - just doing what looks like a shonky deal.

Still been sitting around since July.

Thats what happens alot with imported cars though, they get built in another country, sit around for 6 months before they are off loaded in Australia and complianced.
Mazda however build the car and ship it straight away so there is usually only 1 or 2 months between build and compliance.
Land rover consider anything built after August from memory as the next model year, so for about 3 or 4 months we deal with next years models.
It's stupid because a car can be built in 2011 but can be my12.
Thank you all for your opinions!!
It has all been sorted (not without a few headaches either). The dealer would not budge on the price and still says its a 2012. Spoke with someone from Holden Customer Assistance with the VIN they said it was a 2011 Colorado. So I am going elsewhere to buy it.
Great; lifes too short to deal with shonky dealers.
