Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know of any good careers in office involving construction/building, that you dont need to go to university for?
Cheers
If you're not interested in Uni, I assume you could work your way up from an apprenticeship in carpentry?
You can't just walk into a high paying job. They don't call it a career for nothing
Definitely an apprenticeship in a constuction industry would give you a massive leg up. Carpentry etc.
Then try and get into one of the bigger companies that do that sort of work.
Just a suggestion
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast
there is also possibility of work as a welder, fitter, plant operator etc.
Aluminum Windows is a big business. My brother and my cousin were on nearly $3000 a week last year working at a hospital in Warnambool.
if this is the case...
at my work anyway most of the higher up people have gone from the bottom to the top.
pretty much all the estimators, project manbagers, safety people. everyone have gone from apprentice to tradesperson to higher positions.
(these higher up people still frequent sites)
there are rare instances of getting sorta high up, but its not as common.
occasionally there are engineers (rare), draftspeople (planners), receptionists, storepeople, human resources, and others around these sorts of jobs.
cleaners also work in construction offices.... =P
however tbh its way more fun out on the tools =P
but it may help if you explain your current job situation, any experience you may have. and so forth
otherwise its like stabbing in the dark
Cert IV Building and Construction (2 nights a week for 25 weeks) + relevant experience + building insurance will get you a building license or qualify you as a building supervisor. Probably something you will have to work towards for several years as you will need to get some money behind you to make the business side of things work. A carpentry apprenticeship and a few years on the job would go a long way to fulfilling the experience side of things.
If you are talking about working for a larger builder such as an estimator or contract administrator and the like, then relevant experience would certainly help.
