What's the dumbest thing you have done on the boat ramp?
Mine would be leaving the back strap on the back of the boat and wondering why the boat would not come offwell didn't I look stupid!
i drive my boat onto the trailer and recently on a shallow ramp i didn't lift the motor high enough and ground the prop into the ramp.
3 boats that came in after us did the same thing
lucky it didn't do too much damage to the prop
Leaving the strap on is not as bad as taking the straps OFF. I was waiting at the ramp one time watching the goings on as you do, most people have no idea how to launch and retrieve properly.
Anyhow this family was preparing a HUGE boat at the top of the ramp. It was a glass boat about 20ft with all the bells and whistles ... electronics, rocket launcher, BBQ ... they were all acting tuff and unhooked all the ropes, cables and straps at the top of the ramp .... Multi roller trailer ..... car begins backing down the ramp, somthing made the driver brake about half way down ( probably when he noticed the boat begin to roll off the trailer ) and this huge boat that weighed about 1.5 tonne rolled straight off the trailer stern first onto the concrete ramp and slid about another boat length down the ramp on its belly. Never seen a bunch of nobs go so quiet so quickly. It took them ages to winch that boat back onto the trailer, strap it all back down, and promptly drive home again.
I once fell over and slid all the way down a boat ramp into the water.

As I was hoping out of the boat my pants got court on the rollick (if that's how you spell it) yep head first in the water my parents thought it was funny after they made sure I wasn't badly hurt :/ can't wait to here more
Reversing the trailer in the water to put the jetski on and parking the driver's side so close to the concrete ramp wall, I can't get out............
When I was 17 or 18 I had me a trusty little TC Gemini. Used to get around with my mates with CB radios in our cars. Someone told me if I put my front wheels in the water at the boat ramp, I would be able to transmit further. So off I went trundling off down the ramp in my trusty little TC Gemini. Except there came a point where the concrete ended and the sand began. With a 1 foot drop to the sand off the edge of the concrete. The car nosedived over the edge, front end went underwater and of course the engine died. (Who knew carburetors didn't like salt water?) We tried to tow it out with my mate's Escort, had no luck. Finally got hold of a guy on the radio who was driving an F250, and he very nicely drove 20 k's to come tow me out of the river. The car turned over fine, shot a 30 jet of water out the exhaust, and went on to serve me faithfully for a few more months....never smelled real nice inside after that though. On the plus side, the young lady with me WAS wearing a white dress, and given that the interior was 2 feet deep in water immediately after the plunge off the ramp, it wasn't an entirely bad evening![]()
I was trying to launch my boat, and it started sinking, then I realised I was in the Statesman.
Slightly but on topic,
with your boats and trailors etc, are you using your commodores/sedans or 4x4.
Traction on the ramps are bad arent they?

When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
I've left the straps on before, was kinda funny, as we were prepping the boat we had some old guy hassling us about us not putting the bung in (which was already in) and we got distracted by him and forgot to take the straps off, trying to politly tell this old guy he is a fool when we are the ones who left our boat tied on and wondered why it was hard to get off.
One time I was putting the Kayak in on a boat ramp, put it one, and went to park the car when some dipshit decided he would move my kayak because he wanted that particular ramp to bring in his jetski, so I walk back copping a filthy look from the bloke I proceed to not give a #### and put my life jacket on, when his mate comes roaring up on the brand new jet ski, full throttle on approach to the trailer and cuts the motor, Jetski proceeds to go up Trailer on an angle, up over the mud gaurd and get stuck between trailer and the side of the boat ramp. I kayaked off with a lovely smile on my face.
To be a jet skiier total ignorance is required. We always seem to have problems with them pulling up to the ramp as we're trying to back trailers down, they always decide to hop off at the ramp and stand there with it behind your car while they wait for their friend to go get their car instead of walking it next to the ramp like everyone else allready waiting.
Bro the supercharger did a hektic skid on the ramp, In my case more throttle got me out of this situation.
My VT witha L67 single pegger had trouble last time we went out, There was moss on the ramp and rutts so the car doesnt slide in. after i did a bit of a skid it got out ok. there was a 1-2cm thick goo on the ramp surface, i think i'd much prefer to have a LSD or AWD as my boat is light and tiny.
saw a mitsubishi magna trying to pull a decent sized boat up a steep and very slippery ramp... would have easily won any burnout comp anywhere
Lol - yeah I've seen that happen. Boat ended up on it's guts 1/2 way down/up the ramp. Seen a few cars go for a swim too when the handbrake wasn't as good as the owners thought. Never done it myself thank god lol. I have left the bungs out a few times over the years though. Always remembered before anything bad happened but yeah.

Not me but my old man… launched the boat, cruised through the headlands and got about 10Km south. Next thing I hear this all mighty 'F**K! I forgot the sinkers!'.
Jet skier here of close to 20 years experience.
Never have I done anything stupid at the ramp, but have seem MANY that have.........Sitting just watching is always good for a giggle, but it's also nice to help people when they get them selves into trouble.
Very annoying if any watercraft is left right on the ramp whilst the car is being parked or got to get it out.
Only ever towed and launched my skis with a RWD Holden of some sort without a problem.......But FWD vehicles on a slippery slope...........Say no more.
Dumbest thing I have probably done was on a ramp that was new to me. Lowered the keel, went to leave and the boat went nowhere. Took a couple of minute to realise I didn't quite have the water depth to have the keel completely down.
Dumb things done racing(sailing), I could probably write a book on.
