The bf mkII fairmont ghia is the best looking car if the BA-BF range.
You can get a non turbo fg g6e for about 20k. 08-09 model.

He liked it so he ended up buying it. Not sure if a car yard would trust a young guy like me with one of their cars without them supervising me.
I will take you advice and test drive both, budget really depends how much $$$ I get for the Statesman, plus ill be saving up money at the same time as well.
I agree, the BF MKII Fairmont Ghia looks the best in its range. I know you can get a G6 and G6E non turbo, I haven't taken a G6E for a drive yet (just looked at one), but I did take a 2009 FG G6 for a decent test drive today, and I did like it, but I would like to test drive a BF MII Fairmont Ghia, see which one I prefer, like the look of better, etc.
Not sure if this link will work or not, but this is exactly what I am looking for in a 2007 BF MKII Fairmont Ghia:
2007 FORD FAIRMONT GHIA BF Mk II Sedan Cars For Sale in VIC - carsales.com.au
Thoughts?
Love the colour..
I have been saying for sometime now ford got it right with the fg. The fg has its little problems but the issues that plagued the BA-BF I believe were fixed in the fg.

I recently serviced a FG Falcon and the diff mount bushes were broken, so thats one problem they still haven't fixed I guess. But i'll see what happens, if a good deal on a FG G6E comes up, ill get that, because I will admit that they are also nice to drive. If I don't sell my Statesman then I might wait until i'm off my P's and get a G6E Turbo.
my brother just told me some mates of his says diffs are weak but that's one I didn't know aboutOriginally Posted by scvs6:2095279

Yes the bfmkII ghia is best viewed front on with the chrome grill and lower chrome., its been one of my favourites that and the vy II Calais I still love both cars looks.

Yeah the VY Calais Series 2 is nice, I have always liked them. Only reason I don't really want to get one is because I want a newer car. My Statesman is a WH Series 2 (VX Series 2) and VY is the next model up, so not really updating or upgrading, just getting a newer car that looks different but has the same running gear.
The BA at work has near 300,000 km on it, most of it towing stuff it probably shouldn't. Still on the original donk, box and diff. Now I've posted this all 3 will probably go bang next week :/
VY/Z Calais are models Holden got right. They look great!Yeah the VY Calais Series 2 is nice
Pffft - My last 2 cars looked identical from the outside (other than colour) and had the same running gear, I have always liked them. I agree with everything you have said, although I hope that the running gear doesn't go bang anytime soon now that you have mentioned it haha.
VZ Calais V8 is an option of course, but not going to bother getting a V8 while i'm still on my P's (then I will have 2 cars that I can't drive haha).
I'll just run that car till it stops and then part it out. Although it looks great both inside and out selling for meaningful $$ with that many KM would be near impossible :/.
V8 VZ would be the go. Pitty the box lets it down no end. How hard is a manual conversion on them??

Yeah that is very true, the kms on a Ford make a the difference to the price I have noticed. Ex taxis are cheap because they have done 600,000+ kms, but some of them have had a reconditioned engine/transmission/diff installed at some stage.
Whats the problem with the transmissions in the VZ's? Haven't heard anything about problems with them yet. If was did get a VZ Calais and was going to convert it to manual, the easiest way would probably buy a wrecked manual VZ and use all the conversion parts, then at least I would be able to see how everything is removed and replaced. If I just got the conversion kit then I would probably be asking questions on how to do stuff haha.
get a 3.8 Ltr either a VX or VY if u like the new style look both cars look ok still an ecotec and i heard from people that they are putting ecotecs back in the new model commodores soon cause the 3.6ltrs keep over heating and blowing up. If u dont like VX or VY then go ford, ford are alot smoother to drive then commodores and fords like to stick to the road. End of the day ur decision.
My 2cents... I've owned 3 fords and 6 holdens, and currently have one of each.
The good: The falcon I6 is a bulletproof engine, and from BA onwards they finally located the coil packs to somewhere you don't need to be inspector gadget to reach and they don't get wet every time you hit a big puddle. They get great fuel economy on the highway.
The bad : They still have sealed auto units, which means no dipstick to check your tranny fluid level or top it up without putting the car on ramps.
If you're 6foot or over, be prepared to smash your head every time you get in until you learn the trick to it (this problem has existed since the AU's came out)
You never get the same grin with the I6 as when flooring the 3.8L ecotec, unless you get the turbo xr6.
I wouldn't go either, although the calais does have those sexy, sexy tail lights. Have you thought of perhaps a 2001 nm Pajero for the same price?
