your terminology is a bit off, but I would have to agree with 150%, disabilty pension is probably a bigger rip off than the dole bludgers, and yet nobody has mentioned it, I know off and have seen many cases, why is it that because you are dyslexic, depressed, addicted to substances etc....... you are entitled to a disability pension?
I have worked with people getting a disability pension who are doing the same work I was but for a cash daily rate.
masterofreality, how many people are going to report their medication usage and declare their PRIVATE health information when they know it will be the end of their employment?
so I think that is a huge issue.
Nobody wants to play with me
This thread has depressed me. First thing tomorrow I'm walking into centrelink and asking for disability. Woo work free life here I come.

When you do your pre-employment medical, you need to disclose it. This is just companies weeding out potential risks.
If your job requires a medical, you hold it back and lie on your pre-employment medical forms, then you aren't fit to hire.
If you start taking medication after you start work, it is your duty of care to inform your employer in case an accident happens.
Its still a non issue in my mind.
This is my experience.
I was made redundant from my job in IT a few years ago. In total I was unemployed for 10 months. I was always saving for the what if factor, and I chose not to go on centrelink benefits and instead use my savings - but I came close towards the end as my savings were depleting.
Having spent the latter years of my teens and early 20s studying a particular qualification I was hoping to get back into that field after my redundancy. However I found I was competing against immigrants. I'm not going to say that I knew what qualifications or experience they had, I didn't, I'm not going to say I knew that they would accept the job for less pay, because I didn't know that either. I only know that after the first month I was still unsuccessful at the interviews I managed to get.
At that point I then tried unrelated field jobs. Most require experience in a similar position and relevant qualifications. So I lowered my standards further to low paid entry level jobs and menial labour jobs. Jobs fitting exacting what the media are saying Australia is immigrating people from overseas to fill. I was unsuccessful in even securing an interview for car wash jobs, subway and so on. I was told a few times that I was too qualified and they were wanting to give an opportunity to someone else, other times I was told another applicant with more experience was successful. Was that someone else younger than me or was it someone willing to work for minimum wage? Don't know. Wasn't told.
This went on for the remaining months in all I would say I managed to get to the interview stage around 30 times, I eventually got lucky with a job agency locating a contact centre role related to the LPG rebate government gas scheme. The premise was IT initially, then related to computers with options to promote into IT then the interview was the LPG scheme. I was confused and slightly tiffed that the agency lied to me to get me into the interview, but I wasn't going to turn down a paying job getting close to unemployment for almost an entire year. A few weeks later I was then offered a System Admin role for HP, resigning with thanks from my contact centre role and the rest is history. Well until HP made me redundant.
I see plenty of people saying go get a menial job, do this, do that. But unless you’ve been there, which by the comments of some, you haven’t – you shouldn’t be commenting. Perhaps you were there 20 years ago. But a lot has changed these days. Those golden handshakes and profitable shareholder portfolios are maintained in times by cheap labour and such. But I confess, I don’t pretend to understand what each manager believes and does, but I can only comment from my 2 redundancies and the experiences I’ve had with managers.
Long and short, it is not ethical for them to give themselves a bonus from the profit margin we worked for, and then have that same manager turn around and “let us go” due to restructure. Code for, redundancy. It instils stupidity and a lack of lateral thought and I am yet to be given an answer as to what one individual human being can do to earn a bonus $10 million for one financial years work on top of their already enormous salary. The person in question was offered the incentive if a profit margin was made, which the employees did, not him. He simply said meet the KPIs or you’re sacked and did his job for which he was paid without bonus. But it’s obvious there are those here with the gilded spoon in their mouths and those without, so there is no point continuing to instil logical sense in those who continue to display arrogance.
Disgressing, I made the unemployment barely through on my savings and I wasn’t partying out every night. I’m a saver by nature, spending most of my free time at home maintaining or keeping myself occupied. Not everyone has been brought up this way, some don’t think about the future and the loss of a job would need assistance from the government. I’m not condoning those who obviously abuse the system, I would like to see a viable solution implemented.
Perhaps the best irony would be for them to work for Centrelink itself? Imagine the chaos that would create.
So anyone who smokes weed is a filthy criminal because it's illegal? Can anyone here really say they never do anything illegal?
Making a U-turn at traffic lights when there's no "u-turn permitted"sign? Not indicating for 5 seconds before moving from a stationary position at the side of the road? Not giving way to a bus in front of you indicating they are leaving the kerbside? Speeding through roadworks? Parking over a yellow edge line? Stopping in a loading zone? Leaving your vehicle running while you pop into the store without anyone 16years or older in the vehicle? Beeping the horn to say bye to your friends?
Well yeah, the offence carries a penalty which can inflict conviction.
Never done it
Always indicated the amount required in this state
Again, the law here says we must give way, so if the bus has indicated to move it, I give way.
Never do it
Yellow edged line? Don't see those here so I guess I have never done it.
Nope, I am not lazy and as such will use a CAR PARK.
My keys are always in my pocket so why on earth would the vehicle be running?
Err, I said goodbye to them at the door when leaving why would anyone honk a horn?
Every offence you listed does not carry a conviction if found guilty of committing said offence. None of these offences also make you look retarded. None of these offences give attribute to mental illness.
What exactly is your point? It is obvious 1. You are dope head and 2. You break a lot of road rules...

Overhead this morning at 9.20am (the time is relevant)
Client to Consultant: Mate I got a job as a trolley pusher, was supposed to start at 8am today but I slept in, anyway I need pants, fluro top, boots, mobile phone and credit before I go over there.
His Consultant firstly pointed out there probably is no job now given he is almost 1.5 hours late, however asked for employment details to verify before money is spent. (Some of them lie.......) Guess what, couldn't tell him as just met this guy last night who said he would hire him today etc. but never bothered to grab his name or contact details.
No, no phone or clothes for you. Called his Consultant a couple of choice words and stormed out.
Turns out Centrelink cut him off anyway for failure to report.
masterofreality, I think the real issue is you live in a black and white world with minux who has never done anything to break a rule EVER, by the sounds of it.
it must be nice over there in black and white judgemental perfect dreamland plesantsville. I think I will continue to live here in the real world with my eyes open.
clairbear, you should have culled him when you had the chance!![]()
Nobody wants to play with me
ummm no.. a deadshit not even bothering to do a dead end deadshit job.
If he had wanted the (mythical) job he would have been at work on time, and they would have sorted the other stuff from there.
He would have spewed if they gave him the work gear, he would have been given a purchase order or something rather than the cash he was actually wanting. He had no use for the work gear...
In Morayfield, I think you also have to have a turban to push trollies. Give them credit, at least they are doing something to earn a buck. More than a lot of OZ would do.
I'm a project manager at a precast firm in the SE suburbs. Recently we had to sack a few workers who kept showing up late, or not at all, leaving unannounced or just not doing any work. These guys are paid labourers but the work isn't really that tough so you are expected to work fast, hard and get it all sorted. I posted a message on social network site enquiring if anyone was looking for paid labouring work. 6 guys responded, and only two actually came down for the trial (the others work at subway etc) one guy lasted 30minutes. The other guy started an argument with the boss on the first day, narrowly avoided a sacking, then a week later started another argument with the bosses's wife for which he was sacked. Completely wrong attitude.
Compare it to an ex-soccer player guy we started hiring a few weeks ago. He's 60, works full time and is also a soccer coach. Lost everything he had in the bushfires, works all day in a jumper (even on 30+ degree days) for fitness, injured himself at home but still comes to work AND still manages to outperform all the guys here. He'll no doubt be getting a massive payrise soon. Calls everyone sir, has the best manners.
Not meaning to rip on the younger generation (as I'm 22) but some of the bullshit and pure laziness that I see from dreamers my age is staggering!! If people really want a job, it's not that hard to find one. A labourer is a labourer in any country. If your willing to get your hands dirty you will and can find a job!!

Lol yeah ok, make of it what you will.
In my industry, its very black and white. Drug and alcohol is taken very seriously.
Over the last 10 years I have seen many people marched off site and instantly loose their $100k+ jobs because they thoughts the rules were flexible. The first thing I usually hear is them pissing and moaning about people making mistakes. Tough, if they valued their jobs then they would have abided by the D&A rules.
I have no sympathy for them.
I have broken many a rule on site, particularly early on in my career. Sometimes I got away with it and other times I got hauled over the coals. Some were deliberate and some were due from inexperience, but one thing I have never done is break the D&A rules.
Its actually more likely that an Indian has the contract and hires Indians![]()
The Indian doesnt get any subsidies, benefits or anything else that any aussie could get. Thats an urban myth. He also probably has to work for an Indian pushing trollies because the aussie employers wont hire a turban.
I think we all agree the other guy is a deadshit![]()
Wait Centrelink can pay for my phone credit. Where do I get this?
