All you guys seriously carry knifes and shit? I avoid carrying anything in my car that could go on my record... So I just keep a little torch in door pocket, with multiple bright led's, metal, weighs hardly anything and sits flush in my hand and I can still make a nice fist around it...

Even though the real reason I have it is because I own a VN and never know when it will break down, but its nice to know if someone is going to try something I have something to take out there eye's and something to make my punches harder.... Best part is its 100% legal

I really like the fire extinguisher idea

    Injust keep
My jack handle between the seat and handbrake, (handbrake is inbetween the seat and door) and the excuse, if ever it's found will be I don't keep it in the boot cos it float around and hits the quarters, I haven't got anywhere for it, won't fit in the tool box, but I also really like the fire extinguisher idea.

My wife is my weapon . I got stuck in the middle of an intersection one day and i moved as close as i could to the car in front. The guy in front jumped out waving his arms and screamed "Do you want me to open the f*cking boot so you can drive in ? " My wife jumped out and said in a calm voice . " Maybe you could just open you mouth a bit wider it looks to be 4 times bigger . I also carry one of those hammer type things you buy from auto shops that have a hammer at one end to break your windscreen and a blade thingy on the other to cut your seatbelt of you are in an accident .

Technically you're not supposed to help people in accidents because you may cause further injury and thus making yourself vulnerable to sueing. Though, saying that, I'd help someone who got into an accident, but I think you have to ring 000 and as long as you have rung them, you can help as much as you can. But that was a good reply from the missus lol

I don't keep anything that could be seen as a weapon in the VC, just a BIC lighter in the centre console to wrap my fist around should I need to belt folks.

Actually it depends where you are. In most cases if you wore acting in good faith then you are entirely covered legally. Eg - if there was an injured person in a car but you believed that there was a real risk of fire or explosion and in the course of moving the person they had an aggravated spinal chord injury you will be fine. The point is that the risk due to the fire/explosion was quite possibly death and thus greater compared to the alternative. There is a summary of state legislation on page 2 here: http://www.racgp.org.au/afp/200807/200807bird.pdf. From what I can tell the big danger is if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Provided you are acting in good faith and under the right circumstances you are protected under what is essentially a 'Good Samaritan Law'. I looked into it after a discussion with my missus after a 'what if' question was posed.

yeah that got covered in the first aid coruse i did, basically if they are in immediate danger you can move them, IE car at risk of catching fire, them laying in middle of road with traffic around etc.

you walk a pretty fine line with this one...

if your pretty scrawny and look like a weakling you can get away with a clublock being under your seat or whatever but me and my mates have had tons of experience with the local cops over this.

We even had the cops in a school visit back in highschool tell us that if anything in the cabin of a car could even be handled in a fashion such as a weapon it would be treated as such, I didnt really read much into it.

You've heard before about the drama I used to get from a cop thinking I was having his daughter, and another few who just wanted to seize my license / defect me all the time and this would have just given them an excuse to get me.

When I had my 240 I will confess that I had a jacklifter and my excuse was going to be I had it dismantled and it only fitted under the passanger seat and so the bar from it which was a solid metal tube with plenty of weight which I kept under the drivers.

On one occasion I actually did have to use it when I was at a mates party and some gate crashers rocked up (was 18 at the time oldest person at the party of 15-18 year olds) and these 30 and 35 year olds tried to get with some 15yo's. After calling the cops on them and they took ages to arrive got to a point where they tried to lure the girls away with some drugs, and we were legitimately in fear of them compromising the girls safety and would not listen to our requests for them to leave.

So went to my car pulled the tube out and pretty much escorted them out the front to have the cops arrive at the same time. At this point thinking awesome they will bust them for bringing drugs, the cops talk to them see them all laughing and the cop comes up to me and asks me where I got the pipe from, wasnt around my mates garage so cant say it was lying around, tell them it was in my car incase I had a flat, cop then asks if it was located in the cabin of my car or in the boot. Tell him it was sitting in the boot, I then get given a caution and him telling me he wont arrest them and has asked them to move on, and that if he ever found that tube on the interior of my car he would have me done on attempted assault charges.

Ran it by my brother in law the traffic cop after this happened and was pretty much told I was an idiot if I ever even left something accidently in my car that can even vaguely be considered to be used as a weapon, as he hands out fines/charges for it weekly.

Got told that unless your a fisherman and your knife fell out of your fishing tackle box on the way back from fishing you might be able to convince a cop, or if your on your way to a cricket match and can prove your batting or whatever that you'l get done most of the time.

Hell even when I got my WRX converted from NSW from SA had a mate take it to the inspection station, got a mate to take it while I was at work and the original owner had left a Gurber handtool in the car that got caught under a floor mat and was found by regency. He got the full lecture and nearly had a fine written out.

    This all being said :

If you carry a knife, your a *****ing idiot. If you ever have to use that thing be prepared for manslaughter / agrovated assault charges if you ever have to use it.

If you carry a blunt object have a good damn excuse for it

And if you conceal or it even looks concealed they will come down hard on you.

That all being said, if you help someone on the side of a road wrap a belt around your knuckles tell them its so you dont get burned, it also will make sure they dont get up again if they try anything you want to hit them once and get out of there.

Another legal trick that my chick friends use, you know those cystals to make the car smell nice everyone puts in their ash trays? fill it up cayenne pepper, ground chilli or if your feeling really nasty some ground up paracetemol tablets, you get into trouble
its non lethal and will blind your opponent.

    Jedi technology.

I think these are the guys you see on ACA where they just fail to give way etc, they need a weapon from all the people who want to headbutt them for being idjut drivers

My car is insured, so if someone wants to threaten me to get my car or contents of my car. Go ahead, it's not worth my blood or worse.

I don't stop for people on the road. That's just the age we live in these days, it may suck but it's how it is. NRMA roadside assistance and such are there for their support now.

Do I have a weapon in my car? Only when I'm traveling to and from paintball, but it is secured in my case in the boot and doesn't come out until I'm home or at the field. Outside of that I have a hard-case full of roadside repair tools for my own car - but none within "reach" or thought of use should something cross my path that I dislike.

    This isn't a Mad Max society...yet.

My lack of paranoia ended up with me nursing a broken nose and a fractured eye socket, losing sight in my right eye and covered in blood.

But would a weapon even have helped you against the group of thugs that did that to you?

If anything, you will need to be prepared to have that weapon taken off you and used against you. You may have come off even worse by fighting back or displaying a weapon to aggravate whatever mental reason they decided to attack you.

I know there is a split mentality on, fight back and they won't do it, or don't fight and avoid it and no one can says with certainty that one choice fits all scenarios.

you could use your car key as a weapon if need be, and it's a weapon the cops cant fine you for!

a commodore key to the eye/neck/throat should slow down anyone intent on belting the crap out of you.
