Default what to do when you hear the words "lay off"

at work today, i heard a rumor that there was going to be a few people layed off.

normally i wouldn't think much of it ,but i'm still under a probationary period so if i'm layed off i'm not entitled to any reimbursements.
so if this turns to be true, guess who the cheapest to get rid of? ME!
now once i heard that, i pretty much crapped myself and started working as fast as i possibly could!

now has anyone come close to being dismissed?
any tips to try and keep my off the list of people to boot out?

please, i like my job, and it was a pain in the arse to find any work in the first place!

Mate, hate to tell you but generally if the rumors are getting around, its either bullshit (normally is bullshit) or the list is already made and all you can do is continue your job and wait.

Best thing i believe you can do is speak to your supervisor or manager and see what is happening and maybe start looking for new work.

i'm hoping its a load of shit, the bloke i heard it from is a #### head, but during smoke my supervisor said we're only getting 200 windows out a day, unlike this time last year it was 700+.
so the company is clearly losing money, which is making this a highly likely situation.

well, if you were able to work "faster" then that would mean that you were not working fast enough before, which means you are entirely replacable with someone who would be willing to put out the 700+ that your management want.

the best way to not get replaced is make yourself worthy or promotion, rather than dismissal

I would at least start looking for other options, better to at least be thinking about moving just in case the worst happens.

    Hmmmm.

You could plant drugs in another workers bag. Then say to the boss you saw his 'stash' in his bag.
Threaten the boss by telling him you know where he lives.
Or you could threaten to send a young female friend to his house for her to explain to his wife they've been sleeping together for 6 months and that she's pregnant to him.

Everytime I hear the expression 'laid off' I think of this...

Edit: the scene posted is slightly cut but most should know the rest.

from my expierence, layoffs are usually people who are distractions for other workers or just plain lazy. there is no profit in laying off the "cheapest" staff member. unless upper management have no clue on how to run a business. if thats the case you may be in trouble.

i work for one of the Banks cutting jobs - heard whispers of changes months out - Rumour mill is almost always right.

its different from the type of co you work for, but i disagree that its lazy people and distractions that go - often its just people in the wrong place at the wrong time. it can be as simple as - you have 10 people in your team, get rid of 5 - this can be regardless of performance.

    Its nothing personal, its life.

dont listen to rumours at work.
even our top top top boss makes up rumours for a bit of a laugh.
but its funny because oyu can never tell if he is serious or having a laugh. which makes it worse =P

trust me with that. ive been done by 1 last last year =P
which just kept getting played on, and i took it really seriously.
so moral of the story is just go meh or play along.

remember its only a rumour until its proven true
so until then dont worry bout it.
go on with your day as though its like every other.

Easiest way is to get use of someone else's phone, take a photo of tit's from a porno mag, (takes 2 sec at the servo to click a pic of some knockers)

use that above mentioned phone to send that pic to their number and txt as though ur a woman who's really keen to get in the sack with ur intended victim.
Worked on one of my asshole customers last year..... I warned him if he made my life difficult, i'd make his unbearable!

Well I just heard from a buddy I work with he just told me there was a meeting a few days back and sales are down 20% so it's pretty Likely there's going to be cuts.

And just to add, the regional manager is a complete tight arse, so with out the 2-3 weeks pay I WOULD be untitled to, I will most likely be getting the chop.

So any one know of any jobs around western suburbs/ Geelong area? Lol

Realistically if some one is getting sacked and they have you in mind, nothing you do now will really save you...

I would just claim it as bullshit and wouldn't stress to much..... But if it makes you feel any better, apply for jobs
