Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to lock up a bike in a ute? It's a VZ Storm and I don't have the hardcover on as the bike won't fit so I have it in an upright position. There are three little notches on each side but they can easily be snapped off by the looks of it and it's a $3000 bike so I don't want to take any chances when I'm parked at a petrol station or the shops, etc. I had an idea of buying a sort of anchor but the question is, where could I bolt it down?

^ This. Motorbike you'd have your tie downs and shit aswell you've got to account for, so you could dynobolt something into the tray and when transporting, run the chain through the bracket and through the frame. I have them dyno bolted as home aswell since bikes have been stolen before.
That and get insurance on it, $160 a year for fire + theft, and if it falls off the back. Saved my ass when my $6k got stolen.
IF it's a push bike, maybe get a bike ramp and bolt it to the tray and as said before, chain around the frame. Remember it being a pushbike, doesn't matter what you do, if they want the wheels or something off it, only takes a socket and about 10 seconds. Motorbike is alot heavier and more difficult.
EDIT: As for where to bolt it down, I'm not too sure sorry. But i've seen people bolt them at the front through the tray, as the tray is a seperate and removeable part to the car.
Far out, these forums are weird. Seems you have to wait for a moderator to go over your post if you add a url image but attaching images is fine? Anyway this is what I tried to post - it's a pushy but I'll be getting a moto soon aswell. Cheers for the feedback though.

how wide are your handle bars??? never had an issue with putting in a few mountain/downhill bikes in the back of my ute with the hard cover on,
spose thats besides the point, its just about been smart and know the right places to park and not leave your car un attended if your worried about the bike, a normal chain will do for the common opportunist thief, but if they really want you bike there aint much you can do
you obviously dont know bike prices for real bikes =P
proper downhill bikes can go easily over $5000 and carbon road bikes easily over $10000.
thats not including extra components either.
prime example. and its discounted:

if it is a pushbike take off front wheel. Will fit in easily. Dwpending on front fork set up with tje front wheel it should take 5 mins max to take off.

A ute that doesnt have tiedown hoops in the back? Gay.
I would have a look at a way to clamp the frame then weave a wire rop through the wheels and frame and lock it
Some bike racks have lockable sections but kind of defeats the purpose of the ute.

Just bolt your loop to lock l it through the floor of the tray. Nice and tidy and secure.
Only reason I dislike taking the wheel off is because it's not quick release so I'd have to get an allen key to undo the thru axle each time and also jam something between the brake pads as they won't retract if the levers are pushed down from movement without the wheel on, but it's still an option. Appreciate all the ideas.
Strange, because when I went to attach a url image I received a message saying exactly that, and my post above with the image which I typed yesterday did not come up until today![]()
don't go to the shops with it in the back, and if you stop at a petrol station they won't have snapped the anchor points off by the time you go in/out of the servo (if locked to them)
Yo.
i dont have a quick release either.
however it only takes me 2 minutes max taking front wheel off.
i have the same through axle system by the sounds of it
undo the part that clamps it on.
then the axle.
when tightening back up dont over tighten, as that will absolutely cause trouble in the future.
i remember trying to undo it when someone else over tightened it. nearly stripped the allen key parts.
pretty much only tighten up until firm, or maybe just over.
another option is undo the headstem, and turn it 90 degrees.
if your not keen on taking front wheel off.
also i thought the idea of a hardlid was to be able to lock the lid itself?
thus not requiring locking points? (however i see the point for a motorbike lock point)
