Not really Commodore-related...but you get that...
I got up at sparrows fart Sunday morning to go for a ride...decided to go up to Agnes Waters / 1770 about 130km north of here, along the coastal road well off the highway. Nice destination, nice beaches, good boating area, nice scenery on the beaches...![]()
...even if I did get slugged $2.50 for a can of Coke at a beachside cafe... :my: .
The road was finished in bitumen all the way a few years back, so the surface is great, and I just had to stop and take a photo of an example of the excellent long winding sweepers along the way...nothing too tight, but just right for fast point-to-point driving (or riding...![]()
). It's the sort of road that makes even our standard VS-II Berlina feel great.
I just wish I'd have been on my old '74 Kawasaki H2-750 two-stroke triple cylinder arse-kicker...would have been a lot more "spirited" ride than on my sweet handling but a bit sedate '84 BMW R-65...but oh well, nice day for it anyway...![]()

Man it is soooo good to see what a real road looks like... Will have to take some photos of the crappy roads the pom's over here are forced to drive on. Not enough room for me in the Commodore, let alone anyone else I am spose to share the road with.
Here, you can forget about getting off the side of the road, seems to be an occupation here to make the sides of the roads as high as possible with dirt. Was driving along one of the roads the other day and there is a sign saying 77 casualities in 3 years. After driving along the road, I go, no shit sherlock, my wonder there were so many accidents, and you still haven't got it right. Water pooled up on the side of the road, but you don't see it till you go around the corner, water just everywhere, cause the road is the drain. No reflectors on the side of the road..... must be a new invention... but hang about, we haven't got a side of the road to put them on..... cause the white line is only 1mm away from the edge of the bitumen, and I'm already having to drive down the middle of the road. Definitely gets VERY interesting when you have a semi trailer coming the other way.
I am really supprised that there aren't more people killed here.... there are quiet a few roads where it just changes direction without warning.
Nice bit of road, Wombat...........makes me wanna get a bike again, even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is some great riding roads about......![]()

I hear ya Raggyman...I have a friend who shipped his bike to England to ride around for two months and also see the Isle of Man motorbike races (bastard bastard bastard!!!!!!!![]()
).
Believe it or not, it was what we in our bike club nickname a "BM-VW"...a 1965 BMW R-60 fitted with an original and rare aftermarket engine mount kit which allows you to stuff a 1200cc VW four cylinder engine in it......goes like the clappers and nicely detailed and without all the cooling tinware on it and a nice set of chrome pipes and four chrome sausage mufflers, it looks like it was built that way from the factory.
Anyway, he told us and showed us pictures of what I believe you call "B" roads (?)...he stayed away from the Motorways whenever possible to see more interesting countryside, and we couldn't believe the high stone walls with blind corners, single-lane narrow roads with, as you say, sudden unsigned changes of direction, and farmer Joe on his ancient tractor suddenly pulling out to cross to another field... :my:
He was also amazed at how you seem to always be popping through little villages seemingly every few miles, in between large cities spaced quite close together...he said it was a real culture shock from here where you can drive for hours without even seeing a service station, much less a town...![]()
Thanks Wombat. You have brought some good memories of fab roads that you can enjoy without speeding or being silly. Roads like Tawonga Gap road near Bright in Vic and the Cann River Hwy between Bombala and Cann River which I will be on on Thursday.
youd love some of the roads down here.... not the great ocean road,..... thats a bloody death trap for bikers, but just inland from the GOR, i drive it each day at teh moment to a school im working at and the camry loves it. now if its fun in an 89 camry it must be bloody great on a bike.
What are you trying to do... bring out my peg scrapping side again ? man i miss my ol RG 500 now !!!
