Default Setting up a web page

Hey all just wanted to know how I would go about registering a web address?
The name I want isnt taken at all...
Then next question is (I know abit about web design) im going to use Dreamweaver MX to create it all, but how do I go about uploading it to the net??
Use a FTP uploader or some other way?
Even if ppl have a link to a site that can help...
    Thankx

Try these ones, I just did a quick google search...

    www.melbourneit.com.au
    www.domainregistration.com.au
    www.austdomains.com.au
    www.bottledomains.com.au

As for uploading the site, you should be able to use an ftp client such as smartftp. The domain host will probably have intructions on how to upload your site, ie settings.

From past experiences, never use an actual FTP Client, some of the time, the clients actually download parts of your files, and send back to thier servers for piracy checking. Rarely happens, but your buggered if your caught.

Your windows explorer can actually act as an FTP Client believe it or not, it's safe and easy.

Setting up a domain is like paying for something on Ebay, simple, uploading using Windows Explorer is like copying your file from (for example) c:\my documents\webpage to your (explorer window) ftp:\\ip.or.domain.name\airstrike_space

Or if you still want a ftp client go for FileZilla, it's freeware and very handy/versatile (although missing some features from the more advanced costly ones)

Dont register a domain with australian companies, will cost you 10x as much. You will also need web hosting to store all your files on, i can hook you up there if its only 0-50 meg(dont want to use up all my space )

Ok so what are the steps involved in getting it all going.
So I register the site name with one of the above companies (is this a once off or periodic payment), then what has to be done, I'm guessing I would need to get it hosted somewhere.
How do you go about getting your site hosted once you own the domain.............so confused

*EDIT* Yeah minux I will be registering a .com not a .com.au

You could but you will need to undertake study in programming if you want to get so complex...

Basically a system can only view fonts in webpages that are installed fonts on the computer...

Given that Html is a universal language so to speak any webpage is able to be viewed on any operating system (O/S) that has a webpage browser installed... your problem will be where you state a custom font in your page script...if the computer doesn't have that font installed then the webpage will usually be viewed with default fonts which can look messy with your webpage layout.

Due to the the diverse amount of O/S available...you will need to write a (script / program) written in a language that will work on all O/S which means you will need knowledge of how each O/S handles fonts...where they are installed etc...and that script / program will only run provided that the machine viewing the webpage has the required parameters set to allow a site to remotely install software (it's a BIG security risk to operate a machine like this I dont recommed it....cause basically you are open to remote hacking from just viewing a webpage)

    I hope that helps...

Yeah programming is what I understand best
I know it can be programmed, just wasnt sure if there was an easier way, say just uploading the font to there server where the site is hosted, and add a line to the script to download it once the site is open.

What particular part of the website are you using the font for? If its for the header (ie like the JC one), then your better off just making it in photoshop and slicing it. Depends on how you want to design the site to work, look, blah blah blah...

Fair enough, as long as you don't use some stupid, hard to read, badly designed font like Comic Sans or Lucida Handwriting. Nothing worse than that and makes baby Jesus cry. Out of interest, what font are you thinking of using?

noooooooooooooooooooo red on black=not good!!! hurts your eyes and is difficult to read!!! Try yellow on black or white on black. If you really want red on black, limit it to headings only, and have the main text in white. Here are a few below you could try. Stick to fonts that are easy to read like these ones, this is half the reason why most web pages use set fonts like Arial and Helvetica.
