ya mum!
So I recently put in an application for Metro Train Driver in Melbourne. This would be a huge career change for me but it's something I want to do - and would get out of the 9-5 office grind.

Granted it's a MASSIVE pay cut to go to a trainee driver wage ($52,092 per annum) but longer term could be well worth it.

Has anyone else done a significant career change, including taking a massive pay hit initially to do it? How'd it go? How'd you cope? etc...

The biggest thing that resonates with me: "if you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life".

Cheers!

I'm in the same boat, considering a career change which too will probably result in a sizeable reduction in remuneration.

At some stage mental health has to take priority........

I'm following this with interest.....
I nearly took the plunge a couple of years ago, made it all the way through a pretty intricate application for a new career path, but family circumstances changed and I had to reconsider!

I'd happily drive a B train around the south island of NZ for a while but the pay isn't fantastic and the process of getting a license is a long and costly one.

Victim of crime payment (because suicide is illegal)
Forced time off at full pay not counting as leave

= bonus paid holiday! = WINNING!

What's there to mind? I'm pro natural selection... I've never understood why people think this is the number 1 consideration. I'd be more upset about hitting a dog!

I do shift work now with a fair bit of "off time", I wonder if some trucking company wants a part time driver? Figure it'll cost NZ$5K to get up to a class 5 license and about a year.......

LOL yeah, very common way to commit suicide here in Auckland, one part of the track is known as suicide curve.
