OK, I think I might now finally understand, I got confused thinking that the registration and the plates are the same thing, but they're seperate things.
You cannot hold registration if you are from interstate, but you *can* have personal plates if you are from interstate.
The information is on VicRoad's website, under the title of "Interstate vehicle registration", all these $$$ that we get ripped off %#$@#&$^%&#)(&*#*$
Looks like have to :
- Get a RWC
- VicRoads appointment and inspection fee $31.90
- Registration fee
- TAC charge
- Vehicle Duty
- Plate fees (but I've already shelled out $$$ for personalised plates)
(I would have include all these links to make it easier, but these goverment department's URL's aren't simple, as they all must use some weird system that takes care of their document management. If you want to check it out, you'll see what I mean!)
VicRoads also says that you can claim a refund on the unused portion of the interstate rego, by handing in the interstate plates to them and get a receipt, which you take to QLD Transport. But as the QLD plates are personalised (there is still a few months to go on the rego), I can't hand them in.
So, that takes care of the rego, but now the plates have to be transferred across to me, so I need to complete a "Personalised Number Plate/s Transfer Application" (Form F2963) available from
http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/licensingrego and perhaps also a "New Customer Application" (Form QF3503) as I'm in Victoria.
DSTRBD, I've PMed you what the rego is, I think I;m not allowed to post the plates here, as I think it is regarded as a "For Sale" item and should be in that forum ...
