    Default good news

After 3 weeks (at 1am tmorrow morning) of playing passenger, and only being able to drive the parents VP.. (after my car blew the auto) Today hopefully will be the day I get to drive my car again! It's never good to see your own car being towed away, but it's all good!

    oh shit yeah!!

whats even more expensive is cruising down the main street of somewhere (don't think im a chapel hoon.. never went up chapel with the VR) seeing a bunch of people (preferebly females) slipping into neutral and a couple of love revs about 2-3,000 RPM.

    goodbye synchros, goodbye auto!

can't afford a 5 speed upgrade - I'd lose my license anyway.. the parent's VP 5 speed was bad enough!

Nah I like the cruisiness of a nice 4 speed auto, compared to clutching all the time, gearing down to slow down.. tires my leg after a while..

    mate, don't!
For the VR upwards, the auto's weren't made to be accellerated through the gears, nor slowed down through the gears. The whole purpose was to be a cruisy ride, slip into drive and enjoy!

Slipping it into Neutral for a bit of rev, the synchros go out of whack when you put it back into drive. It's like sitting at the lights, cause you're revving, the auto thinks you're trying to take off.. I noticed when I did it once or twice there was a very slight note of accelleration.

one thing you should also NEVER do in an auto, is either a standing start, or driving along is 'rev dumping' means slowly driving, or sitting on the spot, hitting neutral , taking the revs up then "dumping" it into Drive or 1st.. goodbye auto!

Auto transmissions don't have synchronisers. They don't need them.

Sounds like you might have fried a clutch pack or two, though.

I always use 2nd gear to slow down.. oops, yesterday i accidently went into 1st but wasnt going fast, revs shot right up though. I need a manual... i never rev in neutral while moving though.

I dont treat my transmission with much respect.... oh well.

when i first got my vn i use to have fun with it, being the steriotyped hoon that i was at the time, (since grown up and dont do that anymore, realize how dumb i was)
in the first year of having the vn i had to replace the box, i thought yeah, fair enough, it was shattered when i got it, so i didnt realy think much off it. wasnt untill i got the car back with a brand new shift kitted auto that i thought a little bit, while driving out of the auto shop i did the old compression lock up, people say you shouldnt be able to do that in a auto, well i did, 60kmph down to 3rd, then straight to first, i wasnt even more than 1km away from the auto shop. auto blew. striaght back to the auto shop, for yet anonther re-build. i went threw 2 auto's before i thought mabey it's something im doin,

things not to do in a auto, going from 4th to 1st to make a squeeling sound of tyres, may sound cool, but it's expensive

dont rev then dump into gear, i.e. dont sit at light's, rev the motor and then put it into gear with the revs up, if you dont brake hte gearbox you do dammage to rear yoke or diff. has been known to shear tailshaft cause of this

dont put into neutral and rev while driving, if you are gonna do this, atleast let the rev's settle back to normal before you put it back into gear. all of these will shorten your gearbox life by heaps

    cheers

Stage 2 Shift kit, and a 1,500 or 2,000RPM stall convertor down the track.

Automatic transmissions use a device known as a "Planetary gearset." These planetary gearsets don't need synchros.

    Some reading for the interested:
