I recieved this email today from my ISP TPG internet which stated--
ear Valued Customer,
The ADSL Broadband plan you currently subscribe to
(1.5M Value Unlimited) is no longer offered.
We apologise for any inconvenience, however this has been necessitated by
changes to our costs for your plan.
In order for you to continue receiving TPG's Broadband service you need to
migrate to another plan before the expiry date of your current subscription
on 03/03/2006.
They want me to either pay $69.95 and stay at the same rate with an extra 5gb downloads (1.5mbit 25gb downloads).
or
pay the $49.95 I currently pay and have my speed cut by 1/3 from 1.5 mbit to 512k.
This has infuriated me as I have had nothing but problems with them in the last few months (faulty modem sent back and they sent me another faulty modem).
Should I look for another ISP or stick with them or fight this change?
Get rid of em, TPG are really shit anyway.

time to swap isp's if you ask me
just watch yourself on those we will make you pay $400 odd to cancel plans
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
I have emailed them telling them that when the current month finishes (that I have paid for) I will be cancelling with them.
here is the email they sent me:
Dear Chris,
Thank you for your email.
Do you plan on changing ISPs via the Churn (also known as Fast Transfer) process? If so, it may be in your best interests to keep your ADSL service active for the Churn process to be successful. Please speak to your new service for further information. Your account will remain active until we receive notice of your churn from your new ISP, or if we receive confirmation from you to remove the ADSL service completely.
Kind Regards,
Jimmy

I do not wish to be charged for the next month as I am paid up until the 3rd of march that will be my last day with TPG.

try Westnet internet. They have been voted #1 in quite a number of pc magazines. We are a reseller for westnet at work and recommend them to everyone. they have excellent service and I'm sure you would be happy with them. www.westnet.com.au

I guess I'll keep looking aye, maybe TPG was too good to be true with their 1.5mbit 20gb $49.95 plan.
Eh... I haven't recieved anything yet...but I did just check the website and notice the plans all changed...
WTF is with them... ISP's and technology are meant to be getting cheaper with better service not the other way round...![]()
We are so RIPPED OFF here in AU....Europeans and Americans get so much better service without capping and half the price...![]()
I'm with you UCWEPN... I'll be ditching them as soon as I figure out who's got the best deals....Adam Internet looks good with ASDL2+ 23000/1000 connection... sounds better than the TPG 1500/256 at the same price...![]()

Yeah bloody Cable net , optus pulled that one on us.. We used to have unlimited d/L's for $79.95 then they changed it to 25gb a month for $69.95, mind u we were d/ling like 60gb a month
optus is good im using it. highly reccommended..
recommend westnet
im a premium dealer for them
never had a complaint from a client that ive passed on to them
I recommend Internode. Have been with them for ADSL for over 3 years now. Have switched to ADSL 2+ in the last 6 months and havent looked back. The best thing about internode is the extra content and service is second to none.

I've been doing some investigating and it would seem that TPG still have the best deal and it would be wise to stay with them because they will upgrade existing customers to adsl2 for a very highly discounted price when it arrives. The other ISP's I looked at want to charge like a raging bull for minimum 20gb download limit 1.5mbit (at least $89.95). And the cheaper operators I looked at do not have a large enough user base and have smaller pipelines in place.
Everyone on that TPG plan gets the "email" when their contract is up 6 months I think.
I am on the HOME-Extreme-Value for $59.95 20gb a month with a max speed of 24meg, but I only get as high as 14meg where I am from the West Adelaide Exchange.Originally Posted by ucwepn
Just a thing about upgrading to ADSL2+. Internode let most of the users park on the new plans while the exchanges were in build and transferred us over in mass migrations for very little or no cost. Be wary of people charging to upgrade to ADSL2+ on their own equipment as it should be far cheaper than a Telstra transfer.
Best bet is to have a look at this link for their pricing, or failing that punch your details into broadband choice to find a whole heap of plans based on your requirements.
I read in the paper a few weeks ago that the prices for broadband in the cities will be going up and getting cheaper for rural country areas.Originally Posted by sixshooter
just be thankfull that you can get broadband, where I live I cant get broadband, only through satellite at $130 p/m for 2gb limit.![]()
They need to concentrate on getting the rest of Australia on broadband before improving the broadband for everyone else that already has it.![]()
Looks like chariot have a good 512/128 Plan...
If you dont really need the extra speed...it's a nice dl limit of 40 GB b4 shaping...

I've heard good things about iiNet, but I've been out of the plan business for a while, my brother looks after the net for me now.
Yeh we got that email too.
I used telstra cable internet for about 4 months, and it was bloody fast. It is a bit pricey, and at the same time i was selling optus cable internet (couldnt get it in my area) and it was cheaper, and from what i heard its pretty good
