Epa
Hey Guyz,
I recently got a letter from the EPA saying that an UNDERCOVER police officer had reported my VN ss as 'far too loud'. I had to take it to a place to get it tested within a certain period of time or else I would have gotten a massive fine which could lead to court etc...
My car is a V8, so it is a little loud, but nothing compared to my brothers torrie!! I'm a 'P' plater and I freak out every time i see a copper cause I shouldnt be driving my car... but I think it is way un-fair that someone can do that to ya!!
I got my car tested after I had to go out and get a cat converta cause mine had been hollowed, but in the end run it costed me like $390 because of some bastard!!
I agree with people dobbing in litterers' but does anyone agree with just getting a letter sent in the mail... i think i would have rather been pulled over by the coppa!!

Did the cop actually test the decibels of your car with a meter? ? ? ?
If so was its calibration current????
And if this "undercover cop" didn't use an approved measuring device, then they dont have a leg to stand on!!!
I'd be asking to see some sort of print out saying exactly how loud your car is.
And I'd also be asking for a current certificate of calibration on the machine. . . .
But then again, if your not meant to be driving said vehicle, then Id keep my trap shut and cop it. . . .
More fool you for driving something your not meant to. . . .

I'd just be happy they didn't pick you up for running with no cat... instant $2k fine.

How do they test it? fully redline your car and stand about a metre behind your exhaust with the db tester?

As someone else mentioned, if he had pulled you over the fine would have been far greater.
Running with hollowed cats decreases power output, so it turns out this guy did you two favours.
You did the wrong thing & got busted. IMHO you got off lightly. Live with it.

I have had this with my vn too!! But my car was 2 db under and i didnt change a thing for the test. But worse i got a letter sent to me from victoria police to present my Torana at a police station within 7 days for a roady inspection or i would be prosacuted!!!! But all turned out well as the copper was really good and didnt pick a thing, but he probably could have if he wanted to be nasty!

to the best of my knowledge,EPA laws allow anyone (Not just Coppers) to submit reports if they feel like it. EPa Then follow up just as they have done in this case. Probably sucks but thats the way it is.

Your car must have ****ed a few people off, the way im sure the EPA work is they have a hotline which you ring up and quote the registration plates of the vehicle, and the disturbance ie: blowing smoke, noise etc. If there's maybe one or two cases of the rego they'll pass it off as maybe someone's trying to get someone in ****, whereas if they get enough complaints, they'll follow it up like they did you.

I have heard of this happenning to people before and not being dobbed in by police being dobbed in by just normal people. My friends VH SL/E 308 was dobbed in and we all knew it was far too loud and it was only a matter of time, I have an exhaust on my vl and I know I will prolly get done for it soon enough coz it is quite loud.
( I have the stock exhaust to go back on tho)
But if I get done I'm taking that green EL V8 down the street with me coz it f#cken ****s me ho0w loud it is and he just rips it up and down my street.
I have been EPA'd for my torana for not having pollution gear on it and it took 6 retests before they took the green canary off.

Yet the ss is probably quieter than 'most' Harley exhausts!
