The tests are a bit flawed if it only takes into account fuel consumption and mileage. You really need to look at the long term benefits of wear and tear of components as well to see the true benefits (if any)......

If the car is always run on PULP then the ECU should be able to adjust and you should get more out of it... if you just put it in occasionally, I doubt you would see any benefit.

The report spells it out for you, In the raw it says:- If your car is fitted with knock sensors (Or can increase your base ignition timing) and Oxygen sensors then you will get a benifit from PULP. So all V6 Commodores,185kw 5.0Ltrs and GEN 3's will benifit.

Even a car with a dizzy can benifit from 96, 98, 100 or higher octane fuel, it depends on whats been done to the engine, and how its tuned.

I mentioned that => [QUOTE=Michelson4301](Or can increase your base ignition timing) Advance your timing with the distributor, but the other engines i mentioned will do this for you automatically, It does'nt look cool you having to hopp out of you car fill it up, then whip out the timing light to advance your base timing.

well i use the fuel sold by my servo, elite 95, it's e10 but sold at 2c per litre less than straight 91 unleaded so for me it's a winner......

2c a litre. thats a dollar saving on a tank. I'm no millionare but who cares about a dollar?
That the automobile has practically reached the limit of its development is suggested by the fact that during the past year no improvements of a radical nature have been introduced.

I read the RACV report.. What it doesn't take into account are its injector cleaning and detergent properties..

98RON petrol will keep your fuel system a shit load cleaner and better running then 91RON.. Even if the power increases are minimal..

Yeah Premium is marketed as having fuel cleaners in the mix aswell. Apparently Holden has released a document stating that there is NO performance gain in using the 98 RON fuel, because their factory tuning has only been optimising for 95 RON. So with the 98 fuel the engine control will not advance the timing anymore to take advantage of the higher octane.

i dont trust united, da always used it any got water all through his fuel as they always let there tanks get too low just to sell more fuel and there is water in all petrol tanks in the ground, plus i find my cars hates ethanol, i get less econemy

I dont use ethanol all the time but it is the future so midas well get used to it now. I think it depends on individual servos im sure there all different in there own way.

Whats the deal with bp ultimate seems the winner so far
    Cheers.

IMO fark poo 91RON and fark Ethanol fuels, got to be premium. I dont mind paying the extra 10 cents or so, burns cleaner and some benefits for mileage. Not enough research like VY Storm Adel has said into wear and tear overtime, I m not too keen in chucking it in if the longevity of the fuels effect on the engine hasnt been fully tested. Prove me wrong ethanol fuel, prove me wrong.

    Personally, 8000 Mobil for me.

certainly isnt the fuel mate, i think youll find alot of servos dont drain their tanks often enough, and the pickup line is close to the water level.

I know bp servos undergo regular water checks. some of the owner operator sites might not be as careful.
you see, water is heavier than petrol and sits under it in the tank, and the pickups are low in the tank so when the water level creeps up a little, itll be pick up before pure petrol. the same can be said when the tanks are filled, for a short amount of time the turbulance will cause some mixing to occur.

if the tanks are too low, the pumps will not run as fast and your car wont fill up as quick, and before anyone asks the dollars works with the pump so you are still paying for what you get (within normal error range hopefully!)

anyway, tutorials aside, i run the highest octane i can get wherever i fill up (camry) and notice better economy and all the black shit has left the system.
commy is gas so nevermind that!

Is there anywhere in Adelaide that actually sells optimax? All we seem to get is the 95RON Premium....
