It's was very common to put soluble oil in your radiator, I have several friends who still do it, mostly earlier models where there was very little aluminium in contact with iron to cause electrolysis.
It lubricates water pump bearing and keeps seals pliabe.
These days most just use off the shelf coolant. As its not really necessary.
thanks it spun me out the first time i seen it
thanks for the info
A company used to market a product called 'Bars Leaks' which was mostly soluble oil but had another chemical incoporated which solidified when exposed to air and sealed up minor leaks. It was not all that good for rubber parts and though it worked as a leak sealant and lubricated the pump seal it meant that radiator hoses needed replacing more frequently. It was sold during the 50's and 60's.
it's still sold at automotive shops Don.Originally Posted by Don Sutton
Damm strait, and it works a treat. Use it frequently in my mitsi express (work hack) with a FUBAR radiator.Originally Posted by bangers
